So after testing my 1600+ with an FSB of 185 MHz with my RAM at the most aggressive timings I decide to test it at 171 MHz FSB just by dropping it. No other changes. I try to boot into Windows but can't... wth?!?! so I figure it must be a memory error since these are all STOP errors. I try to put my RAM through memtest... no go :( OK, so now I think I'm imagining things I drop the timings a bit, that still doesn't help... hmmmm... So I bring it back to 185 MHz FSB and test again... no problem everything passes like butter, Windows is stable, etc. Am I missing something here? do mobo's automatically change some internal timngs when you get above a certain FSB? Anyone around here knowledgeable about this kind of thing?

I have heard this before, I think it's a matter of how all the rest of the timings and multipiers and dividers come together, things are asynchronous throughout the system and in some combinations impossible. Sort of like a 21 speed bike, some gear combos are there but just don't work without the chain popping off or doing bad stuff.
