Just started happening, but several days after I installed my new AOpen AX6BC M/B. Happens repeatedly several minutes after Win98se has loaded up. The MBmonitor(v4.18)alarm goes off and sure enough the CPU fan (plugged into M/B fan1)is dead. Doesn't happen with the fan2 plug and I have tried 2 different CPU fans with same results. I am running MBM as I have said, Rain2.0, and RAMpage. Windows PowerManagement is in the never shut down mode. Weird.:Q

sounds like a faulty power cord to the fan and ps... try plugging it into a different cable on the ps

Thanks for the response, but the CPU fan is running off the M/B fan plugs, not directly off the p/s.

I had the Pro Gold version of that board and that never happened. You may need to RMA it Im afraid. Fan header may be defective, soldered poorly..etc

Hey, I just got a replacement board and the CPU fan (plugged into the cpu fan header)still shuts off shortly after Win98se loads. Can't be a hardware problem, unless they sent back the same unitI returned.Doesn't happen in DOS and I don't know about safemode yet. I do not see any settings in the BIOS that seem to have any thing to do w/ the fan shutting down. I flashed to the latest BIOS (255) and tried disabling API. Just plain weird! I might try reinstalling WIN98se if I don't get some other ideas. Anyone experience this particular torment? :(

I have an Award bios with an Abit Motherboard (BX6-R2), and in the Power Management section there's an option for the CPU Fan to either be in an "always on" mode or to shutoff during standby, etc. Your Rain program puts the CPU in a standby mode which might be triggering the fan to shutdown...just a guess, but I'd disable it temporarily and see if the problem disappears.

Well it's not happening in safemode. Disabling ACPI had no effect nor did not running RAIN. I don't see anything in the BIOS settings that I recognize as "fan idling", but it's got to be some software problem, doesn't it ?
