"windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device" what is the deal with this? yes it is enabled.

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)" that is the other message that i am getting

edit: i guess this is another shameless plug for the great service from pchertz, i just gave them a call, told them my problem that i was having with it, and they said they would have a new dvd/cdrw combo drive waiting for me when i came back up to fargo on monday :)

You were using it as a cup holder again weren't you? ;)

Anyway, have you tried checking out the manufacturers website to see if they have any drivers for it? Maybe windows needs a special driver for it or the ide channel.

If your Notebook PC System came with a pre-installed TEAC slim-line DVD/CD-RW combo drive, you need to contact your system's manufacturer for any user's guide documentation, firmware, software updates, and all support related issues. The TEAC's internal slim-line DVD/CD-RW combo drives are not available in retail kits; therefore, your computer's manufacturer will provide all the technical support for your drive.

grrrrrrrrrr

What laptop do you have and what version of windows do you have installed? Is it a fresh format or is it still the original software from the factory?

sager 8880, windows xp pro, fresh install... well not fresh but it isn't the same factory install.

I'm guessing that there is some sort of drive failure.
