lol, If it is their flag, what is the problem. Yes they are burning a flag. By doing it, they say it is no longer worth the values it once had. That's all. For everyone that says people died for that flag, it takes a real idiot to die for a flag, it takes a patriot to die for their country's values. There is a difference and it seems (I hope) that those kids are trying to get the across the point that it has lost all meaning. Whether you agree with that or not, it is there opinon and they are expressing it. I would wager that most people who burn the flag don't do it because they hate America, they do it because they loved America and they don't think the flag has the same meaing it once did.

Look at how old they are, you think they stay awake at night crying about how America used to be so great, but gosh, they just don't see that anymore? How they remember the good ol' days when our presidents were honest and had no garbled intentions, when they could walk down the street to the ice cream man without being mugged for their money, how everyone used to just get along. They cry, they hurt, they want their America back, the America they USED to know!. Right. :roll: They know nothing outside of what their peer group tells them, or the amassed subculture of the crap they find joy in. If you think for one second they give a rats ass about American history, then... I just feel sorry for your judge of character.

1000 x 151 = 151,000 words. Which is quite enough to judge a character accurately.

But moreover, I still remember what it was like to be that age, and I remember doing a few things that weren't socially acceptable just because it was as such (but nothing nearly as ignorant as the kids in the pictures). Walk up to any 13 year old American kid, or walk up to a hundred 13 year old American kids. Ask them their views on America as compared to how it used to function. Enjoy the completely empty responses you get.

I agree. Although in the grand scheme of things, I think you both are on the same side in that it's essentially no-harm no-foul. The OP on the other hand. ..

Maybe I should take a picture of the flag I got when my dad died. The one I defaced when I was 11. You know, when I was 'far too stupid to understand the implications of what I was doing'. When I was 'just being trendy'.

That's OK, I will take your word for it. I just can't understand why people make such a fuss over this. It's a flag. You can't burn American ideals, but you can certainly weaken them through silence.

I don't want to seem heartless, but we don't have a draft yet, if they lost some sort of family member (doubting it), that member knew the risks of the life he decided to take. Bush did not shove them into a fight against their own will.

Exactly, I don't mind that they're ripping up a flag. I just dislike their reasons (or lack thereof) for doing so.

Rip up a flag anyday, I say, it's just cloth; if you've got a good reason for doing so, more power to you.

Flag burning is a great example of a division between how people make sense of the world. There's two basic kinds of people: "thinkers" and "feelers." It's all about how they view the world and how they make decisions. Thinkers use logic and reasoning, while feelers use their emotions and values.

It would make sense that people ok with legal flag burning would be thinkers: there is no *logical* problem with someone burning a flag. It burns, and then it's gone; no different from burning a bath towel. A feeler, however, might more strongly associate feelings of patriotism and loyalty to the flag, and -- illogically, of course -- not want people to be able to burn the flag, due to their emotions about it.

There are more feelers than thinkers in the general population.
Most computer nerds, i.e. anandtechers -- by far -- are thinkers.

Makes sense, eh?
