Got called down to Ace Hardware/Radio Shack today (my sister works there) to help some guy with his computer. She says the guy needs to hook his computer up to the TV, so I was thinking this is going to be a quick in and out trip. I get there and the guy has a laptop with an 1/8" video out plug on his laptop. First off, I've never seen anything like that before. Secondly, Radio Shack had no wires or plugs or connectors for it. So WTH is it called? And where the heck do I find the adaptor to plug it into the TV?

It's on a Toshiba laptop (model T8100) which was purchased overseas I guess. This guy works for some company from Finland who's in town on a buisness trip.

try a generic 1/8" miniplug to RCA cable (though you should probably get one with a ferrite core.) These are usually for audio setups so a 'video' cable may be rare. Try a mono version of the audio cable, otherwise it might be a special order item.

The only time I've seen something like what you're describing is on a Sony laptop, perhaps you could look those up? Or look on toshiba's website, see if you can find the part there.

The other thing I'm thinking is that since RCA audio and video cable is the same, perhaps 1/8" audio and video cable is too?

I have a toshiba laptop and i know exactly what you are talking about. It is an 1/8" jack that connects to the TV thru RCA ends (red, yellow, white). His lappy should have come with this special cable b/c on the 1/8" tip, it has 3 stripes which i think signify L/R stereo and the last strip for video (not sure tho). Basically its an 1/8" --> RCA inputs.

Hope that helps.

That's exactly what I told him, but he said all the parts were in Finland and the computer geeks there only gave him what he'd need to do for his job.

Guess he's trying to watch some DVDs at home or something and wants that connector now.

Would something like this work?

Edit: Maybe this?

I guess so....why?

My sister said that in order to be considered a "Radio Shack" the company (Ace Hardware) needs to buy $40,000 worth of merchandise from the Radio Shack supplier every year.
Interesting tidbit I guess.
