"We previously informed you that, based upon the results of the background investigation, we may decide to rescind the contingent job offer made to you. We also informed you that if an adverse employment action was taken against you, you would recieve written notice of such action. This is your written notice that such action has in fact been taken by Verizon, and that your contingent job offer is being withdrawn."

WTH does adverse employment action mean?! i have a copy of the background check, and i have nothing there out of the ordinary. the only thing i have is one speeding ticket from awhile ago...

Reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean, where the Captain said, ?I am disinclined to acquiesce ? It means, NO!?

"adverse employment action" is just their way of saying, "we decided not to hire you".

Were you applying for a job that required you to drive a company vehicle? I can't imagine them not hiring you based on one old speeding ticket.

Bummer
🙁

Let me rephrase what they said:

We told you that your employment offer could be withdrawn if we didn't like the results of your background check.

We told you that if we decided to withdraw the offer we would notify you in writing.

Guess what. We are now telling you in writing that the offer has been withdrawn.

maybe an old employer badmouthed you.

this is illegal, I think. When I worked at radioshack many moons ago, all the management could say about previous employees was "satisfactory" or "unsatisfactory".

Maybe a good thing...I know I wouldn't want to work for someone who needs to paraphrase things five times then run them through a thesaurus for good measure before sending the letter.
