I think that they don't want to spend too much, but they don't want to lose the auction either. It's a desire to win.
Of course, some people are just dumb.

I think they just get caught up in the excitement, the competitive spirit kicks in and they spend more than they should.

seems like you could sniff out good deals elsewhere than put them on an auction site and make some bank. hhmmmmmmmmmmm. i may have just found a way to support my rampant case of INUD (Irrational Need to keep Upgrading Disorder)

i overpay sometimes cuz i dont want to search for like 2 weeks for a hotdeal on it. cost/benefit analysis.
however, paying for something used over retail cost is something that blows my mind ...

<< 99% of the people on this earth are dumb >>

But those people know that 90% of all statistics are made up.

I think some just have the extra money lying around. The really bogus ones you see are probably stolen credit cards. And the competitive spirit also, it's really true. Ever win an auction on a product that's on the auction for much less than retail?

btw, finding good deals and selling them on auctions later is a pretty cool way to make money. I made well over 2x what i paid for selling PS2 which i got for under 250 each.

I've never heard over anyone overpay on auctions. Is it really that bad of a problem where people send you more money than what the auction closed at?
