Ouch. Samsung makes crappy optical drives. I had an 8x cdrom of a customers that I was fixing back in the day, and it friggin ate my win98 CD. So I take the bastard apart, only to find this was not a first offense. Indeed there was a barbie CD already deep within its bowels.

its a ploy by Panasonic. They bought the name and are trying to divide and rule, like the Romans did. Make enemies out of your enemies.
 
I wonder if the lawsuit over copyrighted material would apply here. Since Sony does own the name Sony. Unless, the guy's last name is Fucksony, then it would be all his!

Are you basing your assumptions on that one case? I've used Samsung CDRW drives for the past couple of years in a few machines and they work fine.

Samsung makes the best Xbox optical drives. Xbox fan boys have gone crazy searching for an Xbox that holds this holy grail of drives. Fast transfers, reads all kind of media, and one of the most reliable. The Xbox Samsung drive sells for $100 alone on Ebay.
