okay so basically I will make this short...

-I took my first permit test on 7/7/05...i failed cuz i didnt study at all or pay attention in drivers ed.

-I took it again on 1/12/06...I passed and got my permit

-I was just about to sign up to take my driving test since I have completed my 50 hours of driving, when I realize my permit says Expiration: 7/7/06.

-This makes no sense whatsoever. They are basing it off the fact that I first took the test, and thats when they apply it to. This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of in my life.

-What makes this even worse is the fact that I got my permit on the 12th of january, but WHY would they give me my permit if it expires in LESS than six months from that date when it is required by the DMV that you must drive for AT LEAST 6 months before you can get your license.

btw...im 17 now.

When's your birthday? For some reason, I'm thinking that you can't get a temp license if you're 18, only a driver's license. This sounds absurd to me, though, and I probably concocted it in my mind.

That does seem rather strange; if you want, you could call them up and ask about it.

EDIT: oops, reading comprehension FTL (partially). If you're 18, I'm pretty sure you don't need to drive for 6 months on your permit to get your driver's license.

your permit is valid for a year i think (though that may vary by state). they forgot to change the expiration date - go back and get it fixed. and by the way, you shouldnt have failed the damn permit test in the first place. that was your first mistake 😉

yes, but here in california, apparently they mark the expiration day from the first time you take the test no matter if you passed or not.

LMAO, who the fvck fails the DMV written test? You can guess and get perfect score on that test... unless you're the OP.

Yeah, seriously wtf? I don't think it's POSSIBLE to fail your permit test. It's all common sense. There's no studying or paying attention involved.

If you failed that, I'm glad your not on the road.

I'm with everyone else on this, who fails their permit test? Common sense gets you 90% of the answers. Also, what's up with 50 hours of driving? It's only 20 hours here, California must suck the big one.

i just had to remember the signs/signals and i was fine. the multiple choice was damn easy. i got a 100% on that test, not to brag...but it was really easy.

im about to get my license and even that test was easy.

Wait, why do you have to wait 6 months to get another permit? Is it that long of a wait to take the test?

Here in Nevada there's, max, a 2 day wait to take the written test. The DMV has a bunch of little computer terminals that electronicly administer the test. The driving test itself, that's different, but it's still only about a week to a month wait, tops.

Even if you're a complete retard, you can take a practice test on the DMV's site and there are all the questions right there

You just need to pay 12 dollars and fill out the forms again. You don't have to wait 6 months.

From the California DMV Manual:

Your driver license application is valid for 12 months from the application date. If your application will expire before you have held your provisional instruction permit for six months, you must return to DMV and start a new application. You will need to pay the application fee and fulfill all application requirements. Take your instruction permit with you to DMV. You will be credited for the time you have held your instruction permit and receive cumulative credit towards your subsequent provisional instruction permit to meet the six-month requirement before taking your driving test.

I, along with a crapload of people from high school, failed the written test the first time.

That's exactly why we're going to ultimately have an Arizona Bay. It's to get rid of the Cal people 🙂

Something tells me all of you failed more than just that...
