Yes, at home speeds show 8-9 down and 975 or so up.

Here at my parents, 1-1.3 down and 150 or so up.

I am using the same computer at both locations.
 
IF your computer is patched and up-to-date, hook it up direct and see what happens. If it is still slow to browse but grabs huge files fast, then it is the nameserver, most likely.
I'll PM you an alternative DNS server.

I have 10Mb down and 386kbps up...why is mine so slow?? Because that is what my ISP gives me dumb-ass!!

What ISP is that? I have charter and thats the speed i get. Are you on verizon or something?

 
ISPs gateway may be overloaded.

One time my cable internet provider had the same issue where I got great bandwidth but horrific latency.
 
I have 1.5Mbs down / 384kbps up ADSL from SBC shared using the wired ports on a $10 Netgear MR814 802.11b router. It's not bad. Actual speeds are about 1280/305kbps.

I set up a Linksys 802.11g network for my girlfriend's parents, sharing a Charter 384kbps down / 128kbps up cable connection. Although it's a lot slower on paper, web sites respond quicker and it feels faster (until downloading something).
 
Blueyonder is Cable(fibre optics) in the UK......they supply my digital TV, phone and Internet for around £65 per month.....

10Mb/386kb line is about £35 ($60 at $1.7 to £1)

Andrew...in what way is it slow....after you get past about 512Kb broadband then the differences to web browsing are virtually none unless you are downloading big pages with lots of Flash/shockwave etc

Normally you will notice a lag in ping if you are using bit-torrent or similar and uploading near capacity

Do the usual checks for spyware etc.....virus check.....make sure nothing is using your connection that shouldn't be...

Try BHO demon to check for apparent browser helper objects such as tool bars etc that you don't want...

Try using a different web browser such as firefox or opera rather than IE (it sucks ass sometimes)

Try pinging a few of yuor favourite web sites from an MS DOS window and see if your pings are the problem...High pings = latency = slow web page responses

Thats interesting cause i don't know of anywhere in the US where you can get 10 mbs down cable. I have seen 5 in think but nothing beyond that. And anyway, i had heard from someone living in the UK that the UK was way behind the US in terms of cable television? (IE only in the biggest cities and not very widespread). It sounds as though it is quite widespread and way ahead of anything we've got. Damn i wish i had 10 meg cable. Oh well. Maybe i can get T3 and pwn everyone...In my dreams...

P.S: I already use firefox lol. Have for a long, long time.
 
10Mb is a new thing.....was a free upgrade a few days ago......went from 2Mb/256kbps to 10Mb/386kbps......I love blueyonder when they do things like this....

I live in Edinburgh, Capital of Scotland so I guess it is a major city...

We have a bit of a war going on at the moment between ADSL providers and cable providers......Some places are seeing ADSL2 with speeds up to 24Mb down but only if you live on virtually on top of the exchange!!

UK was behind a year or so ago...but we have caught up in a major way now......TV companies are trialling TV over IP so big bandwidth is needed!! shouldn't be a problem with fibre optic but copper phone lines may struggle!!....Blueyonder say they have the capacity in the fibre to put all customers up to 50Mbit if the need arises!!!! I can't wait personally!!
