Alright, last February I got ambitious about making a really small PC. I got a mATX/FlexATX hybrid motherboard, I bought a (rare, expensive) FlexATX PSU... I post about it on another forum, asking for advice on shortening a really long 20-pin cable. Some guy with good heat volunteers to do it for free. Alright I say, I'll send it out. I keep forgetting to send it out, but after a while I get it sent. No big deal, he says. I used DC, so I send him an email asking if it got there okay. I get a response, says he'll look at it. Almost a month passes. I shoot him a "what's up" email. Another week, and I get an email from him telling me that:
-His mom just got major brain surgery out of state, is manic depressive
-His dad was having an affair, left the family
-They need to sell the house, must find new one
-His sister is addicted to heroin
Sure, it's possible that all this stuff happened. Pretty unlikely, but not out of the realm of possibility. So I tell him he has my sympathy and to take his time, just send it back when he can. After another month, I send another email. Hey, what's up, can I have my PSU back? I go on sending an email roughly every month with no reponses. Roughly a week ago, a box shows up with my PSU in it. Looks like the work was started but never finished. Clipped wire rejoined, etc. Alright. By now I've installed the little motherboard into a computer for my brother, so the project is shelved. Today I test the PSU. I plug it into a motherboard, then plug the PSU in... POW! ZAP! Sparks shoot out of the PSU and smoke is everywhere. Crap. I'm hoping the motherboard isn't damaged, I have a deal to sell it. Turns out the ATX 20-pin connector was re-pinned incorrectly.

The PSU isn't available anymore. This is the closest match.
Cliff notes:
Last February - Send a guy a PSU to service as a favor
He waits a month, then tells me his family life exploded
I tell him OK, just send it back when you get a chance, no rush
This week the PSU comes back
It fries itself and possibly a motherboard I am planning to sell
