you can go to mexico and get cheap plastic surgery too. of course there's a chance you could be horribly disfigured, but this is a heart we're talking about so you're A-okay

Actually, I think thier was a bigger article about this in the New York Times. I will have to dig it up. They apparently are state of the art. 100% modern and according to this they have a 98.5% success rate. This doesn't appear to be some third world dirt floor hospital.

I think you should read up on this. They are at least as successfull if not better than US hospitals.

Yeah. India is pretty good in the medical area. They have stuff that matches US or even surpasses them. Trust me, I spent a lot of time in Indian hospitals/clinics in my last trip. Even their eye doctors are good and cheap. I'm still wearing the same pair of glasses I got there.

And you are basing this on what?

What the hell is this:
When heart transplant costs $1,10,000 abroad but we do it for $10,000.
What kind of number is $1,10,000?!

I wouldn't go to a hospital that can't notate its numbers correctly.

It means lakhs. In India, they do it like that. One Lahk is a 1,00,000. That's the way they do notation.

That would be way cheaper even considering flying there and recuperating there. HMOs should start pushing this.

Actually, it would be a PPO that would push it. HMOs are pretty restrictive outside of the network.

If you have good health insurance and travel outside the country, you get treated like royalty, literally. American health plans pay way more for procedures than foreign ones do. A friend of mine went to England, got sick, and they put him in what amounted to the Royal Suite, thanks to his PPO's coverage.

Weird - so it's 10,000 lahks, not 10,000 U.S. dollars. How much is 10,000 lahks in US funds?

And of course we have the masses of ignorant people making fun of this before they know all the information, or they're just talking outta their ass. Whichever works.

I know Apollo hospitals, and while I have no knowledge about this in perticular, I know they're good hospitals.

Good to correct jumper. Not that I know or jumper! lol

Why does everyone thing this hospital in india is going to be crap? They have modern equipment there also. I bet its just as good as in the states or anywhere else in the world. They do it cheaper as the staff I can probably guess that they are getting no where near the prices of what they would get in the states...........

No a Lakh doesn't replace hte Rupee. A Lahk is a denomination. Like how you guys say a 1 grand = 1000 dollars? Like that, 1 Lakh = 100,000 (dollars, rupees, watever..its even used to denote denomiation of units...like 1 lakh cars sold).

People might be basing their impressions of Indian hospitals on their experiences with Indian tech support. I've had to call Dell and a rebate company, and both times I was transferred to India. The reps were not very helpful, and the VOIP made for a horrible connection with a HUGE echo.

Lakh is not a currency, it just means "One Hundred Thousand" of anything. What you just said translates into 10,000 Hunder Thousand. That is a HUGE number
