Okay, WTF is this..

say I have winamp open playing mp3's, and I want to play a game, so I PAUSE winamp, and launche the game.. well the game is silent, no sound. only way for me to get sound is to go UNPAUSE winamp, then go back to the game. but then the game is playing and winamp is playing at the same time (annoying)

so I turn winamp's volume down, and the game's volume goes down with it..

anyone heard of this? using the drivers from the OEM cd that came with my OEM SBLive 5.1

Are you using the DirectSound plugin or the Wave Out plugin?

When an app runs in DirectSound Exclusive mode, no other app may run DirectSound in Exclusive mode. My guess is either Winamp is running DS in Exclusive mode, thus denying your game the chance of acquiring the DirectSound interface, or your game is trying to run in DS Exclusive mode and not succeeding because another app is using DirectSound.

Not theory, but fact. I write DirectX programs, and that's how DirectSound behaves.

But since you're not using the DirectSound plugin, I don't know what else could be the problem. Good luck though.
