wtf?? Why is Diesel Cheaper than Kerosene or Heating Oil??

Almost the same stuff... Diesel has all the road taxes added on, so it's usually 20 cents more than either kerosene or heating oil. Went to get some fuel for our hot water & ended up getting regular diesel because it was nearly $1 per gallon cheaper.

Yikes, I hope the price of oil drops soon; I'd like to get the tank filled.

I'm not sure what you're referring to, this is probably the only time in my life that I've seen diesel cheaper than kerosene. Kerosene is essentially diesel that's dyed red to indicate that no tax has been paid. You could run your vehicles on kerosene (or heating oil), but if caught with that red dye in your tank, you're screwed.

Kerosene is clear. Red diesel is no.2 marine diesel and is dyed to catch truckers using it to avoid road taxes.

Edit: I know you can add it to diesel in cold weather..


I don't think any diesel powered device is going to be happy if you feed it kerosene though, it's like water compared.

Probably an indirect water heater from a hydronic boiler system (aka hot water baseboard heat/radiator heat)
