So it takes me like 4 hours to properly come around and not feel like I'm in a daze.

Am on some fairly heavy painkillers for Sciatica.

Sleep about 7 hours a night. Weekends like 14, but then I feel ok.

that means go to work, come home and sleep, then go to work. It's not right.

There's got to be something else.

Too much sleep doesn't exactly help you.

Try excercise....mught want to consult a doc since you're on medicine.

Excerise will get your blood flowing, your heartrate up, and will eventually improve your metabolism if I remember correctly.

I HATE walking up, so I just BLASTTTTTTTTTT My stereo in the morning. Scares the SH!t out of the folks, but I never miss work or school so its a nice tradeoff

If i'm lying in bed, i don't feel *not tired* until i've been in bed for like 12 hours. If i make my self get up after like 7 hours i'm fine after i shower and eat breakfast.

i dont see a tradeoff there 😀

Probably need more sleep. Remember that 8 hours of sleep is just a generic recommendation. Some people need more to function at their best.

Most days I'm like this, and will be in a daze for a few hours. Sometimes I am wide awake from the moment my eyes open.

grrrrr

Sleeping too much won't help your situation. You need exercise. Exercising regularly will help you.

Might be low blood level too.

The last two posts above mine are probably close to why you wake up tired every day: 1. Painkillers will repress your REM sleep and in effect you are dozing off and not getting the "right " kind of sleep, more like you are passing out rather than sleeping.
2. I had a lot of trouble with my breathing a few years ago. My wife said that I would stop breathing for a ling period of time and then start back up with a gasp. I got me some of the nasal strips (Breathe Right) and use them every night and it helps tremendously. Also , you may want to go to a dentist and ask him if you grind your teeth at night. This was another problem I had and I woke up tired every single day. Dentist gave me a mouthguard and now I sleep four hours a night, like a baby.

Remember its not how many hours you sleep, its the quality of the sleep you get. Like I said above, I sleep only four hours, like from 10pm to 2 am and get up for work. I feel energized and alert , never fatigued.

Hell, if you are battling yourself in your sleep, its no wonder you cant get started in the morning. You may be asleep , but you arent getting the sleep you need.

do you have a routine? same time to bed every night, same time up every morning??

you'll be amazed at how much difference a routine makes. i've gone for YEARS on just 4 hrs of sleep per night, just maintaining a routine.

part of it is also psychological, if i lay there after the alarm rings and think OMFG i have to get up again . . . then it's gonna be a tough day, if i just get up without thinking about it and hit the shower, then much easier day.

I'm a sleep tech.

try getting 9 hrs of sleep, most people need 8-9 hrs not just 8.
the pain meds could be playing a lot into it.
if still problems goto you doctor, ask for a referral to a sleep specialist.
there is a lot they can do.

If I stayed in bed until I'am no longer tired I would never leave my bed. It has been a long time since I last woke up and was actually ready to get out of bed, regardless of how much sleep I had.

(I say this as I continue my Wednesday night all-nighter to lessen my unbelieveable school workload. Obviously the souce of my sleep problems)

There were a couple of good points here. Like it's a good idea to get into a routine (same time to bed every night, same time awake). You should try to get about 9 hours of sleep per night if 7 on the weekdays just isn't doing it for you. Also, you may want to go see your doctor, because it could be related to health problems, like if your iron content is too low. I think one of the best ways to battle feeling sleepy, though, has gotta be just tiring yourself out during the day through lots of activity and exercise, then you'll sleep like a dream and wake up pumped to go again. :sun:

you could also have sleep apnea, which means you aren't getting enough oxygen when you are sleeping - some of the posts mentioned that their breathing might stop for a bit and restart with a gasp - that is a classic symptom of S.Apnea.

try getting 8 hours instead... the extra hour may really help

doctors recommend 8 hours for the average adult anyhow.
go to bed an hour earlier......
