WTF? What makes HBO so special that they need to send a truck out to allow it?

Its gonna be a week before I get HBO again. The guy said that for the other premium channels (starz, TMC, cinemax, etc) they don't need to send a truck out for it, but for HBO, Encore, and Showtime, they do. 😕

They wanted $16.99 just for HBO, but I talked em down to $10...😀

Yea, they need to fiddle around with your cable box on the side of your house 😉

you sure it's the box and not the main pole that sends the cable to my house?

It's at the pole. There's an adapter they put between your cable line and pole junction box that blocks certain frequencies, or the entire cable signal. They use it to prevent theft.

They need to remove it to function. It requires a special tool.

(I once climbed the pole an took mine off in my foolish, foolish youth. )

now that you mention it, the original guy that installed it said that many people try to tap the cables on the poles so they can get free cable, but more often than not, they end up breaking the connectors up there, causing an outage for whoever was attached to that pole. People like iwearnosox, no doubt 😀

Hey now, I'm an AT'er, I knew what I was doing! 😉

That and I had bought the tool at a local surplus computer store for $10. I was afraid of heights but once I got up there it was easy to pop off.

(And I'm not particularly proud of this behaviour, but it is what it is...)

That's funny, at Dish when someone orderes any of them I just click on "add" and they have it 5 minutes later.

yea, but can you have 6 TVs on in the house without the need for 6 reciever boxes? 😛

about talking them down to $10. Is this common? I'm looking to go from just basic cable, to digital cable, with the digital recorder, cable internet and HBOs. Can I talk them down for a discount?

Another reason cable TV sucks.

Direct TV I can change my lineup online and it takes effect almost instantaneously. 🙂

Whoa, that does sound pretty cool! Is that also the case with dish network, or only DirecTV?

If you have high speed cable internet. Its not on the pole anymore. Its usually in box on the side of your house
or inside your house somewhere. This is so you can use the high speed internet and yet they can still
block the certain frequencies.
