WTF! We want to install new door...

but HOA says current door is some old victorian design and says we have to refurnish it! Now this door is falling apart and for the most part, is very easy to break into. I've looked into refurbishing the old door, but it seems twice as costly as buying a brand new door.

What can I do? Take it up the a$$?

Invite a friend over, get him drunk and tell him to smash through the door. Tada, can't refinish splinters. Anyway, maybe if you showed them how sh!tty of a condition the door is in they'd stop being dicks about it.

I absolutely refused to move anywhere that an HOA exists. I think that is the most un-American, Communist bull$hit I had ever heard of. My brother moved into an HOA area and decided to paint his badly weathered deck one day without consulting his HOA. They came down on him pretty hard. He says most of his HOA is made up of a bunch of old f*cking women who have nothing better to do than stare out their windows with binoculars and critique what people to do their houses. I told him I'd save up my dog's poo and paint their front doors late one night. HOA is the anti-freedom in home ownership!

Yet more proof positive that buying a home in a restrictive HOA is worse than renting an apartment. Do you have to ask for permission to hang pictures on the wall? 😛

Anyone have a link to the article where a guy painted his house green with purple spots because he couldn't build a circular entrance?

I'd demonstrate/explain to them that the door is not secure.

If they're going to be assholes about it even after your explanation, I'd arrange for someone to "accidentally" trash the door.

just match the style with a new door. Maybe recyle the hardware.

unless you live in a historical building, remodeling (with new) to period standards should be sufficient.

Btw, have you priced new doors!? be prepared to crap a brick!

Type a flyer that says that if the HOA declines your request for a new, more secure door, you will sue them upon your home being broken into as a result of their neglect for your issue. AAAARRRGGGGHHH!!! HOAs piss me off.

I got a good one by Stanley at Home Depot for about $120 a month or two ago. Not even the bottom of the line one either.

HOA's vary quite a bit. My dad's the president of our HOA and the only thing he takes care of is the road. Someone called up on the CnRs abour a house design and he said "I don't know, it's never come up. I guess unless it's not really strange or something it'll be okay."

Yup, Home Owner's Association and no, most neighborhoods don't have it, at least none that I've ever been in.

hmmm...my current house has one and every one of the 12 neighboorhoods I'm looking at have one as well. Must be different down here in KY.

Anyway home owners associations hold now power.

-edit- I got yelled at for putting up some landscaping. Told 'em to politely "get lost"
