VT's 15 minutes are almost up. It's time to move on people.

That's pretty insensitive don't you think? Usually you use that "15 minutes of fame" quote for some sort of farcical thing .... not a massacre.

That Jewish professor who saved his entire class should get an award or something. To die on Holocaust Remembrance Day - a genocide where MILLIONS of people ignored the slaughtering - he stands up on that particular day and instead of ignoring the banging on his classroom door, he stands up and saves other human beings.

Out of all this insanity, there's little goodness to be found.

I feel sympathy for the killer's parents and the victim's families. Make no mistake about it. The killer was a victim. He may have killed 32 other lives and ruined countless but to have been driven to that point because of bullying and the like is a true sorry reflection of the world in which we lived in.

There were at least a hundred early warning signs that this Korean boy would be a danger to himself as well as others and not one of those people who were witness to those signs did anything about it. That's what makes everything so tragic. It was so preventable.

Was in Barbados for the last week and had just caught a glimpse of this on the news. Never knew the severity of the situation until I got back today.

Dont know what to say or what to think. I guess I am glad I wasn't here to have to listen to this on the news all day long. How depressing.

what could have possibly been done to prevent this?

if only the killer lived, he would have made bank...interviews, books, movies, etc.

Negative. Virginia, like many other states, has a "Son of Sam law" that requires him to disgorge any money earned as a result of his criminal acts.

It's unfortunate that there weren't a few armed people with this ammo there. Ofcourse, if an armed gaurd/professor/student shot Seung-Hui Cho before he did any real damage then we'd hear all the liberals complain that they used too much force to stop him and that guns should be outlawed because when innocent people defend themselves sometimes they shoot/kill the bad guy.

A clip is a small metal retaining bracket that holds rounds together. A magazine is a containing device that rounds are loaded into. A magazine also has a spring to allow rounds to be fed out.

so on other words, a Magazine = a clip plus others like spring and casing.

No, they are not similar whatsoever. A tupperware bucket is closer to being a magazine then a clip.

Ahh, I should have refrained from posting. I have not followed the news that much but the pic of both guns was fresh on my mind.

he must've came prepared. I mean, that's like what? at least 20 clips????

so if he didn't have 20 clips, he must have reloaded at least 20 times? and no one is able to stop him while he is reloading? (granted, if I am at the scene, I wouldn't know he is reloading or not)

They're not "clips," they're magazines. He could theoretically have used 17-round Glock 17 mags with +2 base plates, for a total of 19 rounds per magazine, or even 33-round Glock magazines. More likely he was using 15-round magazines (standard for the Glock 19, which was his pistol of choice), requiring him to have 15 on hand to fire 225 rounds.

Thank you, that drives me absolutely nuts when people say "clips".

He certainly didn't buy the cheap ones! The Gold Dots are nearly $1.00 PER ROUND! Sick to see them used in such an evil way.

Gold Dots

I imagine those were likely the ones he used in the crime. I also imagine they are the 124-grain +P rounds. Nearly 1200 FPS. Those penetrate nearly 13" in gelatin and expand to over .60 caliber.

so whats so special about these hollow points vs other +P hollow points?

and have they counted how many rounds he went thru? (15 round clip, or 10?)

he shot a total of 225 rounds

last I read some insider source that's close to the investigation but doesn't want to be named said that they recovered 17 empty magazines.

I think the press should move on to another story. they've been talking about this day and night.

I don't think the 9mm was his pistol of choice. I think he mainly shot the 22. I am not sure why you'd have a Glock 9mm and choose a round like the 22, out of a Walther P22, no less. It's a round that doesn't do much damage because of the high velocity, it normally goes through you. But if it penetrates the skull or a large cavity (chest), it just ricochet's around causing a lot of damage. I think it was because of little recoil. Firing that many rounds out of a 9mm would have a real toll on your hands/arms and subsequent shot would be less accurate.

This is incorrect, according to the reporting, which indicates the .22 was not fired.

Have you ever shot a 9mm? The recoil isn't bad at all. I have shot 200+ rounds of 9mm (out of a Glock, as it happens) in an hour or so at the range with no perceptible fatigue.

i dont understand how he walked around campus dressed like that. If i saw a guy with a knife and 2 guns on his belt; an ammo vest with 10+ mags, fingertip gloves, and cargo pants- and it wasn't halloween, i'd like to think that i would at least question that scenerio.

IIRC he was wearing a large leather jacket over the vest.

I doubt any liberal would say that, given he was carrying two handguns and 200+ rounds of ammunition.

But if it makes you sleep better at night, think whatever you want.

I, too, have a Glock sitting in my nightstand drawer with a box of Speer Gold Dots. It isn't loaded, though. An empty mag is in it and my loaded mag is right next to it. I haven't shot but a few of the rounds. Not too pratical to use such ammo at the range. Winchester and Blazer are much cheaper.
