WTF: The Headache That Won't Go Away

Lifer
I?ve had a headache w/ nausea (no vomiting) since March 5th. I?ve tried all sorts of over-the-counter meds with zero relief. I?ve missed several days of work (thank goodness for sick leave).

I?ve been to the doctor several times. He?s prescribed several different things, including lortab, and nothing has helped. I?ve had blood work done and also had a CT Scan. Everything appears to be ?normal.? Now, I?m scheduled to see a neurologist.

The week before, I was on vacation in Florida. I was ok most of the week. I had to take Dramamine a few times. 6 days of roller coasters will make anyone a little woozy.

Two weeks before that vacation, I had some kinda crazy bacterial infection and missed 4 days of work. After starting a cycle of Allegra-D and amoxicillin, I was ok in a week.

Anyone else have one of these crazy headaches? I can sit in front of my computer for about 20 minutes, but then have to rest. All I can do is sleep and watch TV. This sh!t sucks.

You're lucky. I get a migraine every, about, ~3 days.

I might as well be having migraines. This has been a constant pain for almost 2 weeks. Nothing I've taken has helped. The stronger lortabs make me sleepy, my stomach hurt, and the headache stays the same.

I'm on year 4/5.

There's a show I saw once call "Parasites" on the Animal Channel. There was this one lady who came back from South or Central America with parasites/worms in her brain after eating some local dishes. She had migranes and then siezures. She went to the doctor and got some medicene for it. However, one parasite remained and they had to operate on her brain. She made a full recovery after that.

This isn't an urban legend. When you eat abroad or in the wild (while camping) - be very careful of the food preparation and how its cooked.

Oh no!! I got something from Peco Bill's Tall Tale Inn @ Disney World 🙂

I have headaches that can last several days when my glucose levels get low (no, I'm not diabetic, I just am sensitive to hypoglycemia).

Secondly, allergies are terrible right now. I have to take Nasonex (a steroid), allegra, and singulair just to keep everything under control.

Also, I never go by the doctors word completely. A year ago, my granddad was having terrible pains after eating. He was also getting absolutely terrible headaches. I mean please kill me headaches. My granddad has a very high tolerance for pain and even these headaches left him shaking and groaning in pain. He went to the doctor several times about it and had numerous tests.

One morning he had pains so bad he felt as if he couldn't breathe. We rushed him to the hospital where a CT scan was performed while he was in pain. Turns out he had a gallstone. It had been there for a while. The ducts became blocked and the gallbladder died. It was rotting inside of him and he had gangrene inside him.

The doctor kept saying over and over he didn't know how he made it this long or didn't come sooner. (As I said, he has a very high tolerace for pain). Now both the pains and the terrible headaches are gone. So maybe that was useless but I was just saying that maybe when you feel you cant stand it, go get a brain scan then or something to that effect.

EDIT: added paragraphs 😛
EDIT 2: added spaced lines because paragraphs dont work too well 😕

Your symptoms sound a lot like mine before I was finally diagnosed with a severe chronic sinus infection about 10 years ago... I'd been to several doctors as well & it wasn't until I went to an ENT specialist that I got some effective treatment.

Wuss.

The headaches I get become way too aggravated by watching TV. All I can do is lay in a dark room and pray it goes away. Man I wish I could watch TV when I get headaches...

I went to a neurologist today. He asked about 200 questions and ran lots of tests.

He said my CT Scan showed an irregularity of my vein of Galen. I can't remember what he said exactly...maybe it was enlarged.

Now, I'm scheduled for a MRI/MRA.

I also have to see my ophthalmologist b/c the doctor noticed some sort of irregularity in my right eye.

For the time, he's prescribed ibuprofen. So far, it hasn't helped.

Maybe it's something where you live that is causing the problem? Toxic mold is a somewhat common issue down here in south FL that can cause symptoms like you're having from what I've heard.

I had a headache once that lasted for almost 3 months. I really dont have any ideas what caused it and the doctors didnt have any clues as what they were able to do for me. It was one of the worst times of my life. Imagine having a headache every waking moment from the time you open your eyes till the moment you close them. i feel you man.

eventually it went away by itself. no medication or remedies helped. good luck!
