WTF, someone turned off my dryer while it was running

I put my clothes into the dryer about 45 minutes ago, and I go back to the machine ready to take them out when I discover that the door is open and that my clothes aren't dry AT ALL.

I'm guessing what happened was sometime within the first 10-15 minutes of the 45 minute cycle some jackass opened it for some reason, and just the time just ran out since then. The way the machine works here is that if you do open it with time remaining, you can still close it and resume it with the time that remains.

That means I have to waste another .75 and 45 minutes before I can go to bed before I can get my clothes out. UGH.

IT happens rarely, but it does happen, that dryers sometimes pop open because of the weight of clothes that bump the door. It happens with me almost every time I dry something heavy like shoes.. It sometimes happens for jeans too..

Wow. Have you ever seen a weak old dryer latch pop open in an overloaded dryer? I have. Sh!t happens. It's only 75 freaking cents. When that happens to me, it costs me $1.25. And I sigh, pay it, and move on with life.

BTW, any time restrictions against doing laundry in the middle of the night due to noise issues.

Maybe it didn't pop open because of overloading or an excessively heavy wet item. Maybe you woke someone up.

When I worked days, some wise-ass neighbor thought it would be a good idea to start a load up in the laundry room just on the other side of my bedroom wall at 1:30 AM, just as I was starting to fall asleep. That woke me right back up, and I was pissed. So, as a caretaker at this particular building, I grabbed my key to the mechanical room, and killed the circuit breaker. Then I went to sleep without a bit of guilt. "No laundry after 10 PM" actually means no laundry after 10 PM.

I've seen it happen at the dorm laundry rooms. Someone just opens up the door and leaves it there. I accidentally did it once but I was nice enough to put it back to the original setting.

I had it happen a couple of times while I was in college. The one I own at home has never just randomly opened. It's probably a ploy to get more quarters for someone's DDR obsession.

Move to one of those universities that has their washers and driers online so you can check their status from your room.

hahah. It always seems like I do my laundry at like 2:30 am, on a sunday night. but the laundry room is right next to my apartment, so I'm only keeping up myself with the noise.
