that's what i thought too...cos an IR remote needs a line of sight, of some kind (it can bounce off walls tho).

the opposite is true for the garage door opener; if that thing is being used for tvs, i agree someone can use the same principle to make a similar thing for the garage door, but there are some available already...although the frequency has to be caught while the owner of the garage is using the remote.
