WTF? Some honda dealerships are ricing up their cars even before they are sold!

When I visited San Antonio last week, I decided to stop by a local honda dealership (right outside of Shertz). I started looking around at cars, and I spotted a few that had non-oem rims on them. WHen I had a closer inspection, the dealership had replaced the rims with (wannabe) racing rims, and they had covered the car in "Type R" stickers, and replaced the honda emblem with a red "R" emblem. I couldn't believe it, so I asked the salesman if they were used cars, and he said that the dealership did it. They did it to a few Civics, Accord Coupes, and even a Civic SI! Then he asked me, with a smile on his face, if I liked it. I told him no, and that any chance of me buying a car from his dealership had just dimished because of what they did.

i went to the nissan dealer in round rock and they had one spec-v there with custom leather seats with big "spec-v" logos on them.

what i hate is how they have a pinstripe put on for $20 then charge you $400 for it and it has the underbody coating. if i ever get around to buying a car and they try to pull crap like that i'm gonna tell them to take it off.

All the Honda dealerships in my area have stopped advertising their cars and now only promote
their parts department. Looking for a supercharger, or aero kit? Come to ________ Honda. They
even have cars with TOCA-type spoilers in the showroom.

Another rice hater thread?

Riced out cars are hot among most young drivers now. The dealership is out to make money and they know where to make it. Can't blame them for tying to make a buck.

I could understand some performance parts, but just adding cheap stickers just bothers me.

Porche GT2 = rice?

Dude, you've been smoking something bad lately.
The GT2 is everything BUT rice. ROTFLMAO!

That my friend is not Rice. Brautwurst maybe but definitely not Rice.

I don't think that's rice either. Adding performance parts isn't ricing out a car. Adding stickers is....

That is the antithesis of rice. You're going to hell dude... :Q

Haha, but seriously, the GT2 is such a nice car. The spoilers, exhausts, and intakes are all there for a reason - to make that one fine, fast mofo. They aren't decorative body kits. :)

The difference in the Porche's case is that the wing is very much needed and it CAN go fast enough to make use of it. Oddly enough though, the Lamborghini Diablo can go 9MPH faster without it's wing and they'll admit that it's just for looks :)

rice, by definition, does not add to the performance of the vehicle. the GT2 is a road racer.

getting back to the original statement...I too would find that very odd, for a dealership to do it. But around here (Troy, MI), we have TONS of motor malls (rich cities, 30 minutes outside of Detroit), and most of them have enough class to not attempt such a stunt like that.

And then there's me looking for a '93 Prelude, '95 Integra or '95 DSM. NOT for rice. <sigh> I have no money. :(

I find this disturbing not because I find the cars distasteful (which I do, but that's merely my own opinion) but because it seems the dealership is being intentionally misleading and incorrectly badging its vehicles to increase profit. Not to mention that it defies logic to make speed the selling point of a Honda Civic, whose prior selling points included economy and reliability. I have no problem with the company making more money from selling stupid people impractical things, but being deliberatly decietful is something else all together.

Unfortunately it depends on the local market and target buyers. About 6 months ago the Oldsmobile dealer in my area had an Alero with a touring wing, body kit, rims, and muffler tips. It made me want to cry. :(

The only dealer I haven't seen do something like this in my area is the Ford dealers...

I don't know if this is national or not but this dealership is selling riced out Pontiac Sunfires. It has these dumb colors going down the sides, ugly body kit and a huge wing. It looks terrible, even worse than a stock Sunfire. I will take a picture next time I am around there, it is damn ugly. They have at least 5 on the lot.... I wonder if they can even sell those.

man what dealership did u goto, not only does ny nissan dealer not have any spec v's in leather he doesn't even have any spec v's. I'm a potential buyer, most of the dealers don't even KNOW that the spec v's have leather as a 3rd party accessory (custom soft leather or something). I asked all the lot dealers and they said naw there's no such thing as a leather spec v, even though people have told me dealerships show em off occasionally in the showroom. That's my 2 cents

er my bad u went to the round rock one, heh
