Schadenfreude
Lifer
Today, my roommate's girlfriend and her roommate comes in, and I walk to the living room to say "hi", whatnot, etc., and then my other roommate comes by as well (there's 3 of us), so we start talking, and I just say something about how he's an idiot (yeah - that guy) and he goes off on me, saying how we went through this talk and everything, how nice he is to me, etc., and I just ignore him, thinking he's just overreacting to a simple joke - instead, he pushes me out of the couch and starts pushing me around and obviously wants to fight me in front of the girls (my other roommate, the girl's boyfriend - was on the phone) - I just walked away.
Apparently, he's sick and tired of me treating him like a child and calling him an idiot even though I'm the slacker (I'm not denying that, by the way 😉 ) - but the thing is, I haven't treated him like an idiot in a long time (I used to do this a lot as he is, frankly, a complete idiot in a lot of ways) and this was a harmless quip (he said something and I just added "because you're an idiot").
Honestly, I'm not going to apologize because I don't see where I'm wrong (and he's an idiot) - we're dudes, he was supposed simply brush it off or have a simple comeback . . . instead he starts getting physical.
Regardless of who can beat whom, I'm really aghast in fighting him since I have to live with him, but if he touches me again, I'm thinking that I'm going to have to "defend myself" until I feel necessary.
Maybe I'm in the wrong, but I'm trying to think objectively and try to remember when I treated him like a child, but I can't think of anything - the only thing I can think of is that I like to get into debates (my friends refer it to as being a "smartass"), but that's with everyone - why the hell does he get to be treated special?
Hmm, I'm a little shaken, since that was completely out of the blue, but I'm not going to change my ways for him, because if I did, then I'd be treating him differently than everyone, and apparently he hates that 😉 .
I'm so bad.
