wtf, replacing a 3 way switch

I replaced a 3 way switch and now if switch #1 is in the up position, switch #2 works fine (turns light on and off) if switch #1 is in the down position, then the light stays on and switch #2 doesn't do anything...

Did you replace the old switch with an identical switch? Did you wire the new switch identical to the old switch? Is this a joke? Why doesn't Santa Claus have any children if he loves kids so much?

😀

OK, you might want to go out an purchase a 2nd 3-way switch to replace the other one, too. In the process of doing this, following the diagram at the below site to ensure that your switch connections are proper:

Hrmm, I looked at your diagram. That's not the only way to wire a 3-way switch though... In fact, I think I wired my 3-way switch much different... I'm positive that I went:
breaker box --> switch 1 --> switch 2 --> fixture

Just stating this in case the OP had a similar setup that he was replacing.

Alternative 3-way switch wiring

If you do it this way, you DO NOT connect the common (white) to the switch!
