WTF? Panic Room beat the Matrix for highest grossing Easter movie

Panic Room was alot more hyped up than The Matrix...

Made by the director of Se7en and Fight Club...


The Matrix was still rather unknown the day it opened and spread on word of mouth..
I know I didn't know what it was when I went and saw it..
After seeing it the first time.. I think I saw it three times that weekend 😎
 
Matrix was a bit of a sleeper hit, and achieved a lot of its "monster hit" status by being the best-selling DVD for a long time (still? or did Episode One push it aside?).
 
eh... if you remember... people weren't really into it until the people who wanted to see it spreded it around by word of mouth that it was the best movie they've ever seen. So it took some time to catch on.
 
two things happened here, expensive marketing and hardly any competition, however it won't be out for long.
 
You should take into account the money values at the time though. It probably costs at least $2 more per ticket now rather than three years ago.

Monty Python never made that much and I love their movies.😀
