...*sigh*....after not being able to find a laptop on the forums. I ordered one from Dell.com. It's for my little brother before he goes off to college so I kinda wanted it here ASAP. Well fast forward to today, I order it from Dell this morning, and I have to pay 72 dollars just for shipping (only option for Hawaii I guess).

I check the status tonight and it says ship date is July 4th. Wow, I gotta pay 72 bucks for overnight shipping to wait 2 weeks for a laptop. Shet, I would prefer to pay 2-3 day air and save a little more cash since I already have to wait 2 weeks.

*sigh*

Why charge so much and don't be able to ship it out within a week? Doess Dell usually take 2 weeks on a simple laptop order? I could've bought one locally for that much and still had it that day. I guess it's too late to cancel my order and get one locally too. Oh well...

NEVER trust dell's status availability. It can/may ship way earlier, but then again, it may also ship later.

there could be many reasons why it could be delayed though. They are custom built per order so that takes time. Also, there could be a shortage of parts (maybe even small like a CPU fan) which holds up the entire production. Call up dell and complain, if you get someone nice they may drop you to a cheaper shipping rate and still give you overnight. JUst be ready to speak with the hard-to-understand India call center!

You can still cancel it. Just call up Customer Service and they will cancel the order. I did that 3 times when I ordered a laptop for my sister. The price kept going down, and I kept getting coupons. I saved a little over $200 by doing that... :)

I ordered a Latitude D600 on 05/22. The estimated ship date was 06/06, so I said too long, but OK, I'll wait it out. After all, I had gotten a nice notebook with a great warranty for $2150, whereas a slightly better configured IBM T40 without the completecare warranty would've cost me over $3K at that point. I waited well into June only to be told that the expected ship date had moved to 06/15 and then finally to 06/27. When I placed the order I asked about any potential delays, etc., and was told of no problems. I ordered it over the phone too, just to make sure. The most exotic part I asked for was the bluetooth module. They didn't deliver by 06/13, which is when I cancelled the order and spent more than I wished to spend on a different notebook (I purchased a T40 for $2800, listed $3050). The T40, purchased from warehouse.com came next day and I'm more than happy with it.

Slightly before this laptop ordeal, I ordered a 30GB iPod from Dell (05/15) for $404.10 (there was a deal available at the time, so I got in on it). Dell cancelled that order, after sending me a notification email on Friday afternoon, stating that the order would be cancelled on Sunday (keep in mind that their customer service center isn't open on weekends). The cancelled this order stating that they had no stock when the Apple stores all had plenty of them. I finally purchased one for $550 from the SOHO Apple Store, but Dell delayed me by about 20 days.

Turning the clock back even further, I never received $275 in MIRs on the Dimension 8250 Educational deal, which sucks, because I ended up overpaying for something that wasn't worth it.

...and most recently, I placed two orders during this last deal: one for an 18" NEC LCD for $420.15, the other for a 23" Sony LCD for $1998.94. Dell cancelled both of them.

This is the end of it for me. I am no longer buying or recommending Dell systems or equipment. I've been let down a few too many times after having recommended Dell to all of my clients and having purchased a dozen or so of their computers myself. From this point on, I will only try to exploit this company by getting in on killer deals...

I completely agree. Everything I have ordered from Dell always has a worse case scenario shipping date, it's NEVER accurate.

My latest Sony Style order didn't go as well either. I customized a GSR700 notebook on a sunday. The order stated that it was backordered (because it was a customized model rather than those default configs) but would ship the day after. Not a word for 3-4 days. The order status showed the same thing each day, In Process. I hassled them over email and live tech support and all they did was reassure me it would ship soon. I told them that I would cancel my order soon if it didn't ship. After a little over a week, it finally shipped. Although I chose the free shipping option, it was supposed to be 3-5 days. It took a week. Bad experience.

Actually, I got lucky on one of Dells estimated delivery. When I bought a digicam, I needed to bump it to $300 so I could use another coupon, so I added a case to my cart. I get an email later on saying its delayed, so I emailed them back to cancel it. They did and i got credited the $10. Then there was the coupon which was still valid, the other coupon and my mail-in rebate...

I ordered my camera from Dell and chose the Overnight shipping because I needed it asap, well the camera said ships within 24 hours and I figured since i selected over night it would take at least 2 days to get here, took almost 2 weeks.
