First of all, all my family uses one big account with Rogers AT&T cell service in Ontario Canada. There are four of us, my sister, parents and myself. We've had the phones about three months. It has -always- been paid on time, in full. The current balance is $0. We under-use the minutes actually.. I rarely use mine nor do my parents. Today my sister tried to call us from her cell but the cell told her that the account was disabled.

HRM weird. I told my father and he said "thats not right" and the other three of us checked our phones and it was the same deal. My father called in and demanded an explanation. She said that she was not "allowed" to tell us any information but did verify that payment was received consistently and on time. My father got irate and she passed him on up to a manager. The manager told him that our service has been cancelled, and that we are under an "ongoing investigation" and more with "fraud" and that she can not tell us any more information at this point.

Anyone have a clue WTF this would mean? Police investigation?

They pulled it at noon this afternoon on a Sunday. Hrm doesn't something seem odd with that?

could be that one of your phones was cloned. It doesnt happen much any more with digital service, but that is the main thing that fraud departments handle. Unless someone was using one of your family's phones to call in bomb threats, I dont know what else it could be.

If it were a police investigation, you'd think they'd leave it on and simply wiretap anything illegal. This sounds really weird, like you guys are being blamed for some fraudulent activity.

I'm Scottish descent. My parents have some enemies too. No to sound bragadocious but he has lots of money (millions) and people always question him on it/think he is mob-related.

I can 100% rule out that no drug talk or stuff like that was done over the phones or anything crazy.

oh, okay, just checking. wanted to rule out the possibility of them suspecting your family of terrorist activit. There have been many case of people of Islamic backgrounds being investigated. Okay, thats ruled out. it could be a variety of things. it can be scary though. but as long as you guys didn't do anything wrong, i don't see whats there to be scared of.

Whats to be scared of is all the information "they" (anyone and everyone) have on us. My father has noted different city officials or others he has had "problems" with have told/slipped him information they shouldn't even "know" about him/financial status and what he owns.

My father is in an ongoing lawsuit with a highly important person in the city (my father is going after him and rightfully so).

I hope to find out what the problem is... you don't kill an account at 1:00PM on a Sunday afternoon without something beyond "fraud" I'd say.

What the fvck whatever the case. What if we were just in an accident. The cells wouldn't even work?!? Utter bullsh!t. We'd like to think we can rely on them and that they'd tell us BEFORE killing it/even just to explain?

Yeah that's messed up. Keep us updated.

Also, to clarify, I am 99.99999% sure that your cellular phone would have still dialed 911 in an accident. I'm pretty sure that law requires all phones to do that.

dump Rogers, get Fido?

my Dad never liked the Fido service his last employer subscribed too, but Rogers has nearly "convinced" him to switch to ExpressVu for TV service at least 3 times, and the only reason we havn't is because he doesn't want to deal with dishes, etc. in our place because he wants to tidy it up to put it on the market.
Rogers service SUCKS. Plain & simple. Once they find out that they've screwed up, just tell your Dad to hire/talk to a good lawyer & file a complaint/lawsuit.

When I went to get a cellphone, the company started hassling us about a dead relative who still owed money to the company. We kept arguing with them that this was stupid, and they finally let it go.

Said he'd switch to Telus tomorrow after finding out whats up and if it is their fault.

He called them back again and was automatically put through to an even higher up manager. This time the manager basically said to stop calling them, he would release no information whatsoever *click*.
