And she got hit in the mouth with a Koosh ball. I mean, come on. A Koosh ball lady? I've been hit in the face with a hockey puck and that only hurt for a few days (upper lip.. skinned bottom of my nose). Luckily I was wearing a mouth guard, still hurt though.
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Rosie O'Donnell (news) Show was sued for $3 million on Wednesday by a 71-year-old widow who alleges she was hit in the mouth by a hard rubber ball while attending a taping of the defunct television program.

Lucille DeBellis of Hartsdale, N.Y. claims in the suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, that while attending a taping of the show in November 2001, she was struck in the mouth by a ball thrown by a member of O'Donnell's staff.

The suit alleges the ball was "recklessly and negligently shot" in the audience using an apparatus similar to a sling-shot. It further alleges that over the next several hours she experienced pain and swelling in her lips and mouth and that ultimately small lumps appeared in her mouth.

The Rosie O'Donnell Show (news - Y! TV) has been off the air for a year. The practice of throwing rubber balls at the audience began in June 1996 and was a daily fixture on the show.

The show's distributor Warner Bros., also named in the suit along with its parent company AOL Time Warner Inc., declined to comment on the suit.

For months after the incident, DeBellis claims she had to undergo painful cortisone injections in an attempt to make the lumps dissipate. She says she was also forced to take antibiotics and steroid medication which caused the elderly woman to have "extreme stomach discomfort."

"Furthermore, the pain and soreness around (her) mouth adversely affected her relationship with her boyfriend," the lawsuit says.
Recklessly and Negligently shot. Come on, the lady obviously knew that Rosie shot out Koosh Balls to the audience..

Too fuuuuuugin bad. Oh god that's worth $3M. She should be given a gift certificate to an expensive restaurant (at most) and a sorry (maybe). I've seen rosie shoot those things and even at point blank in the eye you can't really do any damage. Too bad she didn't have that old lady beaten to death as well.

Oh, I thought for a minute there, maybe some old bag was sitting at home with a steaming cup of coffee and dumped it all over herself because something on the Rosie O'Donnell show made her laugh.

Should have known better than to think anyone might find the Rosie O'Donnell show funny.

Hartsdale, NY is an affluent suburban town about 45 minutes from NYC, proper. The old bag has money already, trust me.

***SHUDDER***

A friend of mine was in a car accident with an 80-year old guy. He was sued for "pain and suffering", and the guy's wife was named as a co-suitor for "loss of marital relations."
