Thats alot of posts you have there.
To be honest. I dont really give a rats A$$ about 3DMark anymore.
There so much that can go wrong with it (score wise), then theres the scandel thing.
I`d much prefer real game benchmarks, or a special benchmark program thats baced off a real game engine.

Errr.....No.
3DMark sucks. Its no way to test the performance of a gfx card. Scores can be fixed. Its no indication of real world performance.

Confound now nVidia is doing what they blamed ATI for, poo-poo. Well, as I said before, nVidia only exists to drive ATI card prices down. 🙂

However it is useful when making changes to your computer to see how they've effected performance... for example... running my Athlon XP at 2210 Mhz (221x10) and my PC2700 RAM that wouldn't overclock at 75% (166 Mhz) vs. running my Athlon XP at 2075 (166x12.5) and my PC2700 RAM in sync.

OMG, I just realized that I haven't even run 3dmark2003 in like....several months. I ran it on my GF4 Ti4200 to see the nifty graphics (slideshow actually), and then again later on my (then new) Radeon 9700 Pro. Much faster; still a bit jittery, but nice. Sort of a nifty thing to watch; I don't give it much more credence than that. I guess I just like downloading and running demos that show off what the videocards can and can't do.

Lol... yeah, I do that too...

I respected 3Dmark when they used REAL GAME ENGINES that were coming out in the future. Like Mercedes Benz Trick Racing, Max Payne, and Dragothic was taken from Theif II if im not mistaken. Its been a long time since ive read the credits, but the companies are listed there. I know for sure Lobby was based on the max payne engine.

Anyway 3dmark 2k3 is completely proprietary and doesnt represent performance for ANYTHING as far as i know.

3dMark is a very useful tool. No... Certainly not when trying to compare different platforms.

But when comparing relative performance with changes in your system, it is very useful.

Yep..

Or when first building a system.

3dmark 2k1 is better in my eyes for that kind of stuff...

Brand new p4 with a 9700 only scores 12,000!

Well at least you know something is wrong.

Max Payne for example was made by a partner of Futuremark, designed together, both of the founders used to belong to Futurecrew, wouldnt be surprised if games would be based on the engine like before

Or at least make it based on REAL game engines! It's almost worthless now and I'm sick of the contraversies and crap too!

Nothing brings the emotions out like a discussion of Costa Rican coffee! 🙂
