Doesn't matter if the attendant isn't watching. The whole station is monitored by security cameras. They know your license plate as soon as you drive up. All of the people who do that end up in jail so the only people left are the ones who pay.

No one allows you pump first in my area either. Those pump and run deadbeats never get punished, even if they get caught. Security cameras don't matter, fines don't matter, revoking your license doesn't matter. The station has lost the money.

I would venture to say that no one has ever gone to jail in the US for stealing a tank of fuel, unless it's the 17th time they've been caught at it...

Courts are way too busy to bother with such...

Seriously. There is no time limit on pumping gas.

MotionMan

I've had pumps "time out" if I didn't start pumping gas within a few minutes of paying inside. (Maybe 5 minutes?)
However, I didn't lose my money...I just had the attendant reset the pump.

Facebook, smartphones, I think they turn some people into idiots. It was cash lol. You don't just walk away from a $20. You really shouldn't walk away from a gas pump you just swiped but technology has your back! yeah!

I do hate over-engineered stuff. I was sitting in a 2011 Malibu rental car listening to the radio with the car off and opened the door to dump a drink I didn't want and the radio turned off because of course there is no reason to EVER have the radio on with the door open. There was a ton of tripwire automatic stuff programmed into that car. I was more afraid of the car locking itself with the keys inside than the car saving me from myself that is for sure lol. I actually prefer older cars like pre~ 2004 or 2002. Are some people really that helpless?

We are entering the age of the useless retard.

You had the key off. The radio was going to turn off anyway, even if you had not opened the door. Not understanding how that works is your fault, imo.

To expect a security system elaborate enough to do that in a 7-11/Citgo is not realistic, and even if it was, what a huge pain for the store to recover money from deadbeats. Even the brand new 20 bay, state of the art Racetrack near work it's pre-pay, an '05 Explorer has a 22.5gl tank, filling it with premium is around $85 too much to risk, pre-pay please..

Yup, it's called "RAP" or "retained accessory power", all functions are available for 10 minutes after key out, my '05 Malibu has it, it was introduced in the '04 models BCU along with "afterblow", after car is turned off and the AC system was in usage it will run the blower motor to dry the evap. coils to reduce the chance of mildew forming..

I HATE cars that lock the doors automaticly, it's a stupid concept. What if you are unloading groceries or something and just leave the keys on the seat because they don't fit in your pockets, and you close the door so the bugs don't get in in summer, then the doors lock because the car things you are parking it and leaving. Cars should NEVER lock themselves. Sadly most of them do now. If anything, there should at least be an ethernet port you can connect a laptop to with a management interface so you can turn all that crap off.

An attendant at an EZ-mart just screwed me out of $20 gas. Stranger talked to me for few minutes right before I started pumping.. took me about 3-4 minutes to pump. The attendant said I waited too long to pump - now I lost my $20. Can he do this?

are you really this effing stupid?

how is it even possible that you lost $20? you use the CC then turn to talk to someone? it does not start charging until you pump.

or did you pay the guy $20 before pumping and they said to bad? and you leavE?

really teh story makes NO SENSE.

It is obvious that the answer to your question is yes ... if the OP is not making this up then they are that stupid to get $20 taken from them.

It hurts what brains I have left just reading this crap. How (if true) could anyone with ANY SELF RESPECT let themselves be taken like this.

I would call shens if I cared ...

The only auto locks that I have heard of in cars is if you unlock it from the remote and do not open a door for a period of time.

I so not think that they will lock themselves if you had opened the door at some time in the sequence.

Our Jetta will re-lock the doors if you don't open the driver's door within about 1 minute. If you open any of the other doors, <THUNK> the doors re-lock themselves. I found out the hard way once...I opened the passenger side door, dropped my keys on the seat while I did something...closed the door and <THUNK> locked out. Had to call my wife to bring the spare key. :$

I've been driving for more than 40 years...that's the only time I've ever locked myself out of the car or the house.():)

Automatically unlocking the doors when shifted into Park is there because the engineers who designed it hate women. They know women always put the car in park instead of neutral when stopped, and that allows carjackers to attack women after they park at the mall and start looking for something in their purse.

Cars lock only when shifted from park to a driving gear, NHTSA mandated this, it's non defeatable. It will not lock just because you left the keys in the passenger compartment, LOL..

My car from 1995 will turn off the radio if you open the door. This is very common. The way to fix it is just turning the key to accessory mode.

Our damn Vibe will ding if you have the key in accessory and the door open. No opening the door and listening to the radio. DINGDINGDINGDING
