alright, so I have a recently purchased sony here at a client's house that is having some serious problems with internet connectivity. The 1394 adapter and the Intel PRO 100/VE adapters show up in the device manager, but under the Unknown category. I tried to uninstall/re-install, they go right back there. Downloaded the latest driver from the intel site and put it on there, same thing.

EDIT: I also just put a PCI card in there and it goes right to the unknown category as well.

System Restore, for a quick fix ;)

Latest chipset drivers, remove everything in Safe Mode and then re-detect?

In your Windows folder you will find a file called setupapi.log. Post the last full screens worth of info from the bottom of that log.
