WTF @ Newegg/Chiefvalue.

So, I bought a Refurb Linksys WAP11 for like $13 shipped from Chiefvalue.

So, Mr. FedEx guy comes with it, and I'm thrilled, as this means I can finally setup a wireless network @ my parents house.

I open the box, and everything is there EXCEPT the AC/DC Adapter.

I call ChiefValue's 888 number, and they try to tell me it is an accessory, and Refurb products don't come with them.

I'm like "WTF you need it to make it work, so it != accessory."

They said I can return it, but I would need to pay return shipping.

WTF.

im guessing you didnt take the barebone message too seriously. don't complain, its your fault for not noticing, now suck it up and go to radioshack.

Yep, in all the refurb threads people post "mine came with all the accessories" as if that means Newegg/Chiefvalue will always send accessories instead of just when they happen to have them.

Drivers and cables? optional. I/O shield? optional. DVI-VGA adapter? optional. Power brick? optional.

I have a 2 foot deep rubbermaid container full of every wire and adapter anyone could ever need.
Stop by and you can root through the magical tub.

I'm sorry, but if it's something that's REQUIRED to get the thing to work, it SHOULD be included. That is fvcking common sense.

OK, now if they hadn't included a network cable, I'm sure that the OP would probably not give a flying &$(#. Everyone has at least one network cable or USB cable or something like that laying around.

That'd be like selling a refurb wireless mouse you only get the mouse and not the wireless reciever. WTF?? That's bullsh!t

Thank you.

I think I'll file a complaint with some agency.

I called again and talked to a "supervisor" and they told me the same thing.

Yeah, I agree 100%.

The manufacturer repackages the refurbished product, so you should contact Linksys about it, not ChiefValue or Newegg.

Most of NE/CV "refurbs" are simply customer returns not actual manufacturer refurbished products.

Agreed. Also agree with NFS4.

An "accessory" is more like the driver cd's, manual, something like the backplate for the case if you buy the motherboard, other types of cables. But the friggen power cable? I guess maybe "technically" the power cable is an accessory, but come on.

i think newegg has their own refurbs done in house, that is, if someone returned something claiming it didn't work, newegg will resell it as refurb without sending it to the manufacturer.

anyway, it might actually violate deceptive trade practices or implied warranties for them to sell you just the base station

True, because obviously you couldn't tell whether you needed the refurbished warranty or not if you can't even get it to work without a required component.

Not sending the power brick is a joke... seriously i dont see how they could get away with that one.

When i buy a refurb video card and it doesnt work because its missing capacitors, is that an accessory too?

AC/DC adapter at RipOff Shack will probably cost more than buying a new WAP.

They dont cost that much:roll:

Oh yeah? I had to pick up a USB cable for a buddy recently, and Radio Shack was the only option, and he was paying...

A 3 foot USB cable was $20. A 6 foot one jumps to $30...

Ohh...but they are GOLD...woo.

QFT

I'm glad NFS4 said this before I got to the end of the thread to reply myself.

I'd definitely file a complaint with the BBB, and document your experience with them on various sites like resellerratings etc. NewEgg and ChiefValue have a good name for most people, but if they pull that kind of stuff they are no better than tigerdirect. Ok, maybe not that bad, but you get the idea.
