wtf: new AE jeans

So my brand new American Eagle jeans have the front pockets sewn shut. Why the f would they do this. Can I just cut the threads to open the pockets?

I've always bought jeans from AE and they were never like this. Anyone else's AE jeans come with the pockets sewn closed?

so there are actual pockets there? then yes you can do that. I've seen this done with dress clothes
 
sounds like a defect, take them back. Then again fi you got it from an outlet store, it is very possible it is a defect
 
Lots of pants (but I've never seen jeans) come with the pockets sewn shut. They lay nicer. Cut 'em open if you want. Some of my dress pants I have kept shut.

This is done with dress clothes quite frequently. It could possibly be a way to make their jeans high class...
 
Yep it has pockets in there, but they are sealed off by this stupid seam. Weird thing is I always get jeans from AE and they never come like this.
 
I bought a pair of AE jeans about 5 or 6 years ago. They were the best jeans I've ever owned, and lasted for years. Ever since I haven't found a pair of jeans there that were anywhere near the quality. Now they are made cheap and all have those fake holes and fake wear.
 
I thought that only happens for suit jacket pockets. You should be able to cut the thread with a knife or something, no?

Many retailers do this, and have done so for many, many years.

wow. I'm surprised so many have never seen this before.

FYI: this is typically done to prevent theft. (shoving socks or small items in rack pants pockets, etc)

Hmm, I'm the opposite. I've had some bad quality jeans there, but considering I typically pay no more than Levi's cost, sometimes a little more, and often have some better styles, a few bad ones I can deal with.

However, I own a few pairs that are also excellent quality, with no holes in the stitching or crotch. I cannot count the number of times I've worn some of my AE jeans, the current pair I'm wearing at the moment I wear most days of the week even. If it weren't boot weather I'd wear some of my nicer jeans more, but until then, this current pair is holding up great.

I would be willing to be a lot of ATOTers entire outfits, shoes included barely cost $30 lol. We have CHEAP ass rich people on here. Everyone makes 6+ figures a year but spending $60 on some good jeans is just too much 🙂

I have never seen this. Not even my pair of Guess jeans had that done to them.
