wtf, network card on IRQ 21?

hello everyone. i just installed Win XP in my brand new system. specs are Intel 2.4C 800 fsb cpu, 1 gig Corsair Twin X, Asus P4P800 mobo, Kingston NIC, ATI 9700 pro, WinXP Pro.

so far this system seems stable(still at nearly default settings). but when i check my IRQ allocations in Win XP, i see my NIC on IRQ 21 and my Radeon Pro on IRQ 16, sharing with the USB controller. what gives? there are a bunch of free IRQ's from 3 to 11. why are my devices on such high IRQ's? i've never seen an IRQ above 15 before. what can i do to get my video on irq 11, or have all devices on IRQ 9, like my last system(Win XP Pro also). thanks for the help.

Welcome to ACPI, and the IRQ numbers are irrelevant as they're just hold backs for backwards compatibility.

thanks for the replies. so from what you guys have said, these high IRQ's are normal? how come my devices all didn't install on IRQ 9 as they were with my last system? is there any disadvantages to having my video on such a high IRQ, and sharing with a USB controller? if so, how can i change it? the bios on the P4P800 does allow for IRQ reserving, but its for legacy devices, and i can't assgin them to a particular slot.

thanks for the replies.

Not only normal - this is a good thing. Your new mobo uses APIC/ACPI, which is an improvement on the old IRQ model. Chillax and let the hardware do its job.
