Okay, now I too have LOL'd in this thread. You have not heard of Thanatos (I will let you guess at why), and the fact you listed a bunch of mainstream/lite BM and DM proves it.
I know the name Thanatos, whether it has any place in music is for you to inform me, all I know is Thanatos is in mythology. But yeah, the metal I do listen to now is mainstream, unfortunately. I like in Canada, how do you expect me to know of much else? =D
You said that you have "heard of them" but "never listened to them," which makes it clear you were discussing the word Thanatos in the context of a band and not mythology. *Shakes head.*

As for availability; I know Canada is pretty low-key for metal, but so is England, so I know your pain.

Are you implying there's no Metal band by the name of Thanatos? I beg to differ.

ok Ulfhednar you can stop with the elitist attitude towards music. Who cares if you listen to "cool" music that isn't mainstream? I hate tool, but that doesn't mean that anyone who listens to tool is an idiot and doesn't know what good music is. Millions of people bought Britney Spears but that doesn't automatically mean that they don't know what "good" music is, they just so happened to buy some crap music along the way. So go take your elitist @ss and park it somewhere in the dark where you can write how much cooler you on anonymous message boards because you listen to "Thananos," and are even cooler than the guys who make the music.

*Shakes head.* Go back a few posts and read what I said.

Firstly; I said Thanatos (UK).

Secondly; I said that Thanatos (UK) did not produce such and such an album which can be found on Google (and other places such as Amazon), because some other band by the name of Thanatos did.

Thirdly; You said that you "have heard of them" in response to my query about Thanatos (UK), but that you had never listened to them, and when I said that it is impossible for you to have heard "of them", you spouted some nonsense about mythology. If you were talking about a different Thanatos then i think you need to work on your reading comprehension skills, but that's a given since you think I just said there is no band called Thanatos despite me talking about them on two different pages.

There are a bunch of bands called Thanatos, from a bunch of countries, but you asked for an example of something I listen to so I said Thanatos (UK).

Well, considering I've never listened to them, I can't guarantee I've ever heard of them, either Thanatos, or Thanatos from the UK. Nor could I tell you the difference between the two, or anything about either band. I know the name, and that's why I brought up mythology. But, there's a chance I have heard of one of the two, or even both, but never put too much thought into it.

Either way, what kind of metal would you classify Thanatos (UK) as? What other bands do you listen to?

I'm flattered, but you're the second person to completely miss the point. :p

You've not heard of Thanatos (UK) because only a few dozen people in a small, north-western, British town have heard of Thanatos (UK). :p As for what else I listen to, everything you have listed so far and much more (with the exception of Tool), but right now I mostly listen to unsigned bands from various countries.

Since you asked; Thanatos (UK) are black metal.

Ironic coming from someone who likes Tool.

to me, and i would think most people, that would come across as judging what music is good and bad....

Calling me out on what? Winding up Tool fans? Are you one?

Do people only read the first post in a thread before replying or what?

Hopefully not old "Cradle of Filth" Black Metal. They've always been pretty terrible, and their music has gotten worse and worse.

EDIT: You said you listened to most of what I listen to, and more, so would you happen to know any other bands like In Flames (preferably the old In Flames, their new stuff isn't so great)? I'm not even sure what you'd classify them as.

Hehe, nah. More like Bathory, which is why I am into unsigned bands at the moment as most seem to care a lot more about playing their prefered style instead of catering to the crowd (i.e. CoF). :)

Addition: I LOL at you people taking way more offense to this than LoKe is. Remind me to wind-up "generic ATOT poster" instead of Tool fans in future.

You've probably heard of these, but if you're after the Gothenberg melodic death sound then you will want to listen to some early At The Gates and Dark Tranquility for sure. In fact I think Anders from In Flames used to be in ATG. :)

It's difficult to offend me, especially when I'm learning all the while. :p

lol at Ulfhednar. can't believe people brag about their music preference when they listen to death or black metal.
