Well, The only damn thing i see improvement in is 3dmark2001se.... i made a time demo with q3 and got 67 fps in 800x600 max details (wtf.. i use to get high 80s and low 90s with my mx)... also my performance in Unreal Tournament with Open GL is in my opinion hardly any difference from my MX using D3D.... fps about the same maybe even a bit better on my MX.... if anyone can help me out please do. because if not i just wasted money on this card.

P.S. And yes i did reformat and even installed a whole new o/s with a new HDD. windows xp..

also wanted to post that the settings under open gl and d3d are all on default except d3d i got vsync always off....

not that i honestly think this has way too much to deal with the performance in getting with my vid card... but im gonna post it anyways so people know what im dealing with.

Duron 700 @ 910mhz
Abit KT7 motherboard
Hercules Muse 5.1dvd sound
crucial pc133 256mbram
Maxtor 80 gig 7200rpm

and yes i use to use a geforce 2 mx on the same system.. also using catalyst 02.1

please help. i bought this as a upgrade,... not a downgrade. i dont want to sell it after buying it but if i have to.. i probably will

You running it with 32 bit? Radeon runs slower with 16 bit. I would recommand getting the 6118 driver too.

Doesn't your new operating system have a refresh rate flaw that caps frames per second. Try turning Smoothvision off and apply the refresh rate fix for Windows XP. And of course if that is a Via chipset based motherboard, apply the 4 in 1's in turbo mode. Link

I hate to be one of those guys to say it has to be user error, but it has to be something configured incorrectly.

The GF2 MX has piss poor performance compared to the 8500.

I would second that you give Omega another shot. He's been able to work around a few bugs in my system over the years.

Ok, well I don't really think your problem is with drivers or that you necessarily have a "problem." The reason the 8500 seems to fail in outperforming your mx is bc of the scenarios your running. First off, the system your running, with a 910Mhz clock speed is most definitely bottlenecking the graphics, which in itself is probably the biggest reason you do see a dramatic improvement. I run the 8500 on my Athlon XP 1700+ and the card outperforms my old GeForce 2 MX400 by ungodly amounts, in fact its almost sickining. Also, besides that fact, the 8500 is what i would consider a labor intensive card. Its performance really shines when you actually utilize it. Running Quake 3 at 800x600 doesn't even dent the cards performance, but just to compare, on my PC i run Q3 at 1024x768 at 32-bit with framrates over 150fps, somtimes reaching almost 200fps. Try something more intensive, like Neverwinter Nights, you'll see the difference real quick. Like gregor7777 said, it could also be the configuration, and there probably is some small detail lowering performance that you haven't come to realize yet. However, i still think the main reason is from running it on a low end system with an old, non-intensive graphics engine (Q3). As far as Jedi Knight II goes, i'd bet my life its a bottleneck problem, and the MX can't even handle that game at 40fps at 1024x768, not even on my machine, and 60 isn't even that bad, cuz the G4 Ti4600 can't play it at over 100fps. So make sure all the configurations are correct, try messing with certain settings to see if it helps. And if not, time to get a new system.

Yeah he's got it figured out. Your processor is utter sh*t for gaming as well. Jedi Knight 2 turns on Anisotropic Filtering by default when it sees a card fast enough to do it, the GeForce MX is not one of those cards. If you set EVERYTHING to lowest possible detail in your control panal (performance setting), and dissable Anisotropic Filtering you'll see the FPS take a big jump, of course it may not look pretty.

This Radeon 8500 is a strange duck. I am an nVidia user who has gotten lazy over the years from downloading one driver for all of my PC's and then rebooting. Nothing to it. I removed my GF2-Pro and installed the OEM 8500 and my scores were almost cut in half. I got 2614 on my first and only test so far and I am using the Catalist drivers. But playing 1024x768 in Jedi Outcast there is a noticible improvement in detail and performance. I'm not big on numbers, the performance that I can see and feel is what counts but a drop of this size has me less than happy.

I deleted the detonator drivers and all references to them in the registry. The card looks and feel great but those scores just plain suck. Anyone else had this happen?
