WTF! My Domain Name has been STOLEN! YES STOLEN!

I registered the domain name www.digitalhorde.com about 22 months ago, and I registered it for 2 years. I ran the site for awhile, then lost interest and kinda forgot about it. My friend told me he accidently hit the bookmark for it the other day and there is some stupid computer company sitting at MY DOMAIN NAME! what's up with this? I did a whois and it says I still own it until like june 26, 2002.

I can't log in to my domain registrar right now either since I forgot the username and password, and can't get the password since I don't use the email address that I registered with anymore.

can anyone tell me what my options are?

honestly, I was gonna let the domain name lapse in June and I really didn't care, however now I feel very possessive since THEY FUGGEN STOLE IT!

Too bad most of your registration info was bogus, otherwise that might have helped in your claim:

yeah, I didn't want all my info out there. does that matter though? when I registered with my registrar, I used all real info and paid by credit card. I even got a thing in the mail last week asking me to renew it.

I've never registered a domain before, but I didn't know the whois search results didn't necessarily match the registration info. Wow, that's ... pretty dumb. But don't you have to jump through hoops and fill out forms to transfer a domain? How'd this company get it otherwise, unless the registrar just handed it off.?

Aaron, sounds like you may have an excellent case on your hands 😉

Call an attorney and spend the $50 for consulting 🙂

Good luck, and remember who your friends are when you get money!

(wait, who the fsck are you?)

It's way too early to deal with an attorney. You need to contact the registrar and attempt get it back first. I'm sure they have a procedure to follow if you lost/forgot your id/password, even though your email has changed.

The problem I see is that you registered with bogus info. That in itself may be grounds for them to void your claim.

guys it ain't worth it. I was just gonna call or email the people that STOLE it and try to get $100 bucks out of them. It just plsses me off that they can do this.

Think of it this way ... You may have just hit the jackpot.
Sue the company that stole your name for a portion of their profits.
They're making money off of your name.

Think about it.

🙂 its probably some slob running it out of his basement, it doesn't exactly look like they are Dell or Compaq.

looks like I'm SOL. no biggie. my new site is way better and has a cooler name. And I provided correct registration info.

I just recently changed my info to "please e-mail me" instead of putting down my address because I didn't want people to see where I live. What are you supposed to do then?? is there a way to supply a real address but not have it all over the internet for everyone to see?

It still seems wrong that they did that. You may still have a case. Were you aware of what you just said when you registered with them, infact did they even mention that or have that written at the time of your registration with them? You at the very least deserve a refund (assuming you paid for this thing) I would think.

Santa Monica ain't that far... you wants I should pays 'em a visit? With my friend Cameron Crowbar? Just kidding I am 1 foot tall and only 5 pounds please don't hurt me.

fyi, this COULD be an accident. Last year I got a phone call out of the blue from a huy who wantd to know why I stole his domain (something like weirdocartoons) -- I had no idea what he was talking about, but when I entered the url he kept screaming about it was forwarded to my page (non-commercial). I assured him I had nothing to do with it -- it turned out to be some problem with my ISP and they fixed it in a few hours.

(goto their house and kick their dog. that'll show em)

Well there are 2 opts.. as u know

1. Sue the co.. since you are legally bound to the TOC that you sign up w/ .....unless they amended the TOC then your are SOL
Let them have it for I say $500

2. Forget about it .

seems like you still have the site, unless registrar sent you that email and you didn't respond.

and if your name is still with INTERNIC for that domain name, I say send that company a bill for squatting on your site! and find out who bills that company for DNS registration and contact them.

but you gotta do the legwork. letting it go and you're still out of money for the domain. so, is this worth it to you to do some sleuthing and maybe some good ol' fashion ass-chewing???
