I come home yesterday and my dad comes up awkwardly and first thing out of his mouth is "Now I will go in 1/2 with you....", I instantly knew he tore something up. He proceeded to tell me while I was gone he thought he would mow my yard. Well in the process he tore up my mower's deck. My mower had issues before(it wouldn't run at full throttle, and the choke had to be on), but my deck was fine. I told him he was out of his mind if he expected me to pay 1/2 to buy a new mower when he tore it up. I told him he bears responsibility to get it to its previous state. He didn't like that and left out of the room.

What kind of shit is that, tear something up that doesn't belong to you then expect the person to go in half to replace it. I am letting him stay with me rent free, he doesn't clean or help out at all. I can't even get ice out of my fridge because his nasty ass never washes his hands and always sticks his hands in there to get ice.

Man up and have a heart to heart with dad.
Sounds like the mower isn't the only issue at hand anyway. Best to get it all on the table at some point or another.

What the hell kind of irrelevant, stock advice is that? He already told his dad what he expected of him.

There is nothing more, and there are no issues. I invited him here and I don't mind, he is trying to get disability etc. That isn't the issue, the issue is he tore up my mower and had the never to expect me to go in half for a new one.

Well, why should he pay for a NEW mower to replace your beat up old POS mower?

I think he's being fair. You're going to be a dick to the guy who gave you life over a couple hundred bucks?

I don't want him to buy a new mower, I want him to fix the deck. It was his idea to buy a new mower, and me pay half.

There are better reasons to be altruistic (RAH: doesn't exist) than for being fertilized by him.

Fixed.

Oh, well in that case, why are you freaking out? It was a crappy mower in the first place, and sooner or later you'd have to buy a new one. I don't see what you are mad about at all.

Just go ahead and ignore the rest of the post on that and hash out a stupid reply on the first sentance. (I'm thinking you posted that before I finished my edit?)

If this is the case, and he broke my mower then I wouldn't be mad at my dad at all. I'd get a different mower, and not make him pay anything because of all the things my father has done for me in my life.

It is a 20 hp Craftsman riding mower, and it was in great shape besides a fuel problem.

Well I can respect that, but if I tore something up that wasn't mine I would take responsibility to fix it.

He was fertilized by his Dad? Damn, that adds a whole new level to this thread...no wonder the OP harbors so much anger towards his Dad.

When I was 17 then I moved out, but that is fine and teaches a kid responsibility.
