WTF? My brand new XP-mobile 2400 is only a 2200 ???

I just bought a new AMD XP-Mobile XP 2400 processor, with the Barton core and 512 kB cache - the shop website said it should be running 2000 MHz @ 266 MHz FSB.

I plugged it into my ECS mainboard, booted it, and set it to run @ 133MHz DDR FSB and the POST screen says it is a AMD mobile XP 2200... Well, often old mainboards don't recognize new processors correctly, so I install Windows XP and CPU-Z, and that says:
-----------------------------------------------------
Name: AMD Athlon XP-M
Codename: Barton
Specification: mobile AMD Athlon(tm) 2200+
Core speed: 1792 MHz
Multiplier: 13.5
FSB: 132.8 MHz
Bus speed: 265.5 MHz
-----------------------------------------------------

This is definitely not what I ordered, but is it supposed to be like this? I had expected it to run 2GHz, just like the normal Thouroughbred 2400+, and thus give about the same performance...

I am not sure if I am misunderstanding something, but I am inclined to send the CPU back to the shop and ask for a refund, since they have not sent me the product I have bought.

If you can help me clear this up, I will be a happy camper. :)

I need the info off the sticker on the CPU itself to tell you for certain.

EDIT: it's the info on the black sticker Example You can see in the first line it says 2400 that I.D.'s it as a 2400+

try running it with 166 Mhz FSB; correct me if i'm wrong, but since its a Barton, it should do that with no probs (it probably goes beyond 200...)?! , set the multiplier to 12 and voila 166x12 equals your 2000

Looks like you are limited by the multiplier on your motherboard. Try increase FSB to 200MHz and lower the multiplier to around 11.5.

Hmm, alright.
Info coming right up - I'll just rip out the internals of the machine...

Here it is:
AMD Athlon
AXMH2400FQQ4C 9820154D40920
IQYHA 0417VPKW 1999 AMD

Thats it... ;)

Yeah, I realize that. (DOH!)

What I was wondering is, the shop explicitly says it's a 2GHz unit - and my mainboard doesn't have a manual multiplier setting, so I figures it would be running at the specified speed. And if the specified speed is 1800Hz, then I feel a bit screwed and I would perhaps complain about it to the store.
I believe that the mobile XP's come in different clockspeeds, don't they?

the 2400+ mobile is a Barton core and runs@1.8ghz 266fsb so it was a typo or error that's all. You got the right chip. The 2ghz is for the t-bred, and the difference in speed for the same PR rating is because they are giving the extra L2 cache on the barton more credit than it deserves IMO.

My mobile 2600+ runs at 2GHz stock.
That's an odd jump.
2400+ = 1800MHz
2500+ = 1866MHz
2600+ = 2000MHz

So which is has closer performance to it's model number?

bartons have more cache so they get more performance per mhz than a standard 256kb L2 cache athlon, thats why they are clocked lower, maybes his motherboard jus doesnt recognise the extra cache?

dont you have to do soemthing to windows so that it can makes use of the extra cache?

careful, some ppl out there might be changing that black sticker ;)

but yes, a 2400+ mobile barton is a 1.8ghz proc
