WTF, Mazda? Mazda3 configurations suck! And where's the Mazda6 wagon? :(

No leather in the 2.0 liter. No manual transmission in the 2.5 liter hatchback. So basically, if I want a manual hatchback, I'm forced to get the weaker engine and either cloth or fake leather, which makes my back sweat like hell and decreases my resale value.

Pass.

I would love the Mazda6 wagon that the rest of the world gets, but Mazda thinks us Americans would rather go for the CX-5. As much as I like the CX-5 for what it is, crossovers and SUVs just aren't for me.

Sadface. 🙁

And they are right because many Americans are *large* and annoying, buying SUV's and Minivans when should be the better choice.

Wagons are a dying breed here 🙁

If I remember correctly it was also impossible to get a sunroof without the leather/pleather. I prefer cloth and really like me some sunroof.

You can get a moonroof on the 2.0 with cloth interior.

And yea, OP the 2.5 manual is supposed to be coming later this year.

Exactly that... it's hard to justify selling a wagon when almost no one will actually buy them aside from a few people such as a few auto journalists and enthusiasts. Sadly most Americans prefer automatics and like big cars.
I suppose Mazda wanted to appeal to the greater mass majority first, but they are supposed to release the manual 2.5L cars soon.

But yeah, it's sad that you can't even get a fully loaded manual 3 or 6~

I feel your lack of powerful manual wagon pain. Subaru only made the 4th gen subaru legacy wagons with a turbo and manual transmission for 1 year. 2005 when the generation was from 2005 through 2009. Then they stopped making the legacy wagons all together a few years after that. Now, they don't even have a wagon/hatch wrx. Audi doesn't have avant a4's or a6's anymore.

Cadillac has earned a lot of my respect with their CTS wagon, and then CTSV wagon.

getting a manual reduces the resell value of your car.

Not really.
Those who prefer manual will pay more since supply is dwindling.
A manual wagon will sell for more $$$ than an automatic because of "slim pickings" rule in the US.
You may sell the auto quicker but you'll get more for the stick (excluding shitboxes of course).

Your wagon is available in Europe...

your just generally wrong.

The only market for manual wagons in the USA exist with elitist internet car shopping jockeys.

I think Subaru is only car company with some success in selling wagons, Subaru calls it the Outback, which is a Legacy wagon with better ground clearance.

I hate the preconfigured trims on a lot of new cars, and Mazda is certainly one of the worse ones for getting what you want without a bunch of crap you don't.

But I don't quite get the complaint here. The cheapest 3 hatch offers a lot, and I don't really see the point of the 2.5L. Before the Skyactiv engines, most people seems to agree that the ~145hp 2.0 didn't feel any exceptional amount less powerful than the ~175hp 2.5. Both engines have gotten a ~10hp bump and I suspect the perceived gap may be even less now. The higher-end hatch is about amenities; not horsepower.

More importantly...it's 25k. It's more than the current 263hp Mazdaspeed.

The new gen sedan doesn't offer the bigger engine with a manual, either. Not to mention that I think the 'wagon' term is silly...it's a hatchback...people act like that's a dirty word.

A Mazda 626 liftback was my first car. Unfortunately it wasn't as nice as the modern ones. How come they don't really make liftbacks anymore?

Vertical hatch is more practical. I think it's just that they don't want to lose out on those that want to shop 'by the numbers.' And sedan versions look much the same...sloped back windows and short trunks are aerodynamic; turning that into a 'liftback' as I think of it just makes for extra cost without standing out any more on the lot.

And 'wagon' is a dirty word to the general public, but not as much to enthusiasts. I'm sure drivers of Euro wagons would much prefer that to being grouped with 'hatchbacks.' Hatch or 5-door just kinda implies a cheaper compact...which the Mazda is. That's my only point...it's like people say 'wagon' to try and elevate it to something it's not.

I think you are interpreting my comment wrong.
Those who prefer manual will pay a premium for it.
Generally I may be wrong, but as an elitist adult with a family who actually buys manuals and actually buys wagons with real dollars I put my money where my mouth is.

All I know is that I know what I want. I just can't have it right now. Heck, I could even go for a BMW 3 series estate, but that's just a unicorn car, at this point. I want the biggest (as in cargo room) driver's car I can get, basically. I really love the Mazdas, but the available configurations kind of suck at the moment.
