Nothing beats my $1200 round trip to amsterdam 2 years ago for one ticket.... Freaking rip off, but it was 5 months between outgoing and incoming, so they rape ya.

You are right about full fare tickets, unless you have the miles to upgrade or outright buy the tickets with mileage.

BTW, Swiss serves free booze in tourist class. The seating and food is far better than any domestic coach class I've been in.

I see it as waste. Why would I want to pay several thousand dollars for free booze, better seats, and real flatware? I don't care how wealthy you are, waste is waste; one could spend that extra $3k+ on an extended vacation, travel to another country, etc. It's just absurd.

August is one of the most expensive periods, along with late Dec to early Jan.

Mid Jan through March is the slowest travel season and you can get really cheap flights, so is October/November to early Dec.

It's just another luxury. For people that have the means it isn't a big deal and I don't think any less or more of them for their decision to pay for it.

The free wine in all classes makes the flight go much more smoothly. 😀

I'm certainly not judging them; it's their money (if they paid for it). I'm just suggesting that the value is incongruous with the cost, and so even though I do have the means to pay for it it's just not a rational purchase, in my opinion.

Anyway, enough of my ranting on that 😀 I generally have enough wine while traveling to make up for many flights without :wine:

I need to start taking advantage of all these frequent flier programs. I have a credit card that offers points, etc. I just never looked into it.

The only time I've flown first/business is when a company paid for the tickets, and that was much to my chagrin; I always complained that they'd pay sometimes 5x the cost for a ticket when I would be just fine with my Ginger Ale and peanuts 😀

Look at it from the company's point of view, would they rather risk you arriving sore, cranky, and unproductive or at least marginally happy, relaxed, and hopefully productive?

Yes. Make sure you get an aisle seat so you can stand up easily. Try to get an exit row seat too since those generally have more leg room. Check www.seatguru.com for your specific plane.
