The King of Twitter is now the King of Apple, as "Two and a Half Men" star Ashton Kutcher is attached to play Steve Jobs in the indie pic "Jobs," which Joshua Michael Stern ("Swing Vote") will direct from a script by Matt Whiteley. The film will chronicle Steve Jobs from wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple, where he became one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of our time.

Five Star Institute's Mark Hulme is financing and will produce the pic, which is skedded to start production in May while Kutcher is on hiatus from his hit CBS series.

CAA, which reps both Kutcher and Stern, will represent the pic's domestic distribution rights.

While Kutcher was last seen in Garry Marshall's ensemble pic "New Year's Eve" and the romantic comedy "No Strings Attached," he earned strong notices for his more serious turns in David Mackenzie's sex dramedy "Spread" and Emilio Estevez's historical drama "Bobby."

Stern, who made his helming debut with the 2005 Aaron Eckhart vehicle "Neverwas," previously directed Disney's 2008 election comedy "Swing Vote," toplined by Kutcher's "The Guardian" co-star Kevin Costner. Helmer is also attached to direct Stone Village's "Carnaval," an R-rated comedy that pairs John Cusack with fellow CAA client Johnny Knoxville.

In addition to both CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, Kutcher and Stern are respectively repped by Untitled Entertainment and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Sony Pictures is currently developing its own Steve Jobs pic, based on the bestselling book by Walter Isaacson.
Yeah, so there are two Steve Jobs biopics in the pipeline. I've never felt that Kutcher can act.. I am not sure sure about this.

They should have used Noah Wyle to portray Jobs. I thought he did a pretty good job in Pirates of Silicon Valley. Of course that was 13 years ago so maybe he doesn't have look they are going for now.

I vaguely remember Kutcher being decent in the Butterfly Effect, but I don't really recall for sure.

He certainly looks like Jobs.

I thought Pirates of Silicon Valley did a great job at portraying jobs already [it's on youtube]

He eerily does look like the young version of jobs - but he'll have to grow a beard/gain some weight for the middle aged jobs, then shave his head and start to lose a lot of weight to accurately portray the cancerous jobs.

As a big fan of Butterfly Effect, I think he can play a drama-style role fairly effectively.
When it comes to getting a good acting job out of an actor, it can really depend on the script and director. Just look at Star Wars for evidence of how good actors/actresses can look like amateurs (mainly the prequel trilogy, but in general there were bad acting moments in all the films but those new ones take the cake).

A lot depends on the team behind the movie, but I think Kutcher has it in him to play a serious role about a ruthless "visionary" who had a massive ego and self-righteousness to the extreme.
[just stating the facts: personal opinion of the man and his business are not included]

I've been seeing trailors for this as it's due out Aug 16

Kutcher may barely resemble Jobs in his youth, but he certainly can't act like him. I imagine this will make buckets of money though.

I heard he had to spend weeks learning to walk like Jobs. Apparently Jobs walked like a weirdo?

Yeah I just saw the trailer last night. Eh, don't look too bad actually. And like someone else said, I thought Kutcher was great in "The Butterfly Effect."

Woz had some interesting things to say about the movie, mainly stating that it portrays Jobs as a brilliant inventor and businessman, when in reality he was pretty much just a greedy, opportunistic asshole :D He does agree without Jobs scheming they wouldn't be where they are today however.

In one part of one of the trailers you can tell he's also trying to emulate the little lisp he had. It didn't seem to be consistent though.

Probably will be like The Social Network in that regard... people actually involved say it's not close to accurate. But I still liked that one, so maybe I'll like this too.

I think he is the most over rated man on the planet EVER

If you really think about the big scheme of things......he hasn't really accomplish much (assuming one realizes that pretty cartoon movies and "smart phones" don't really improve your life much).

If you are one of those people that has their phone mounted to their head on facebook all day......yes he is a hero.

You can argue that he himself may not have been as big of a deal as many people think, but I don't think you can deny what Apple has done for personal computing and the music industry. I don't care for their current products or company focus, but I also can't deny that they were a huge player in the mp3 player market which changed that industry forever.
