Anyone else here work part time and get scheueled for more hours than your full time co-workers?

For instance;

Me: 36.5 hours this week
Full Time Associate #1: 31 hours
Full Time Associate #2: 25 hours
Full Time Associate #3: 32 hours

No benefits, no decent PTO (for every 1 hour I work i get .024 PTO), just crappy pay and crappy hours. Im beginning to hate my job more and more each week... :(

I used to work 36 hours in 12 hour shifts, but since I got promoted it's 36 hours in 12 hour shifts + whenever they call me to supervise the ER techs (which happens quite alot at 12am). I feel your pain.

Just a way for them to get around having to give out FT benefits to the PTers. Part of retail life my friend...

I work "part time", but like you, 35+ hours a week.

We have 10 people or so working (usually around 15 though, we had alot quit), everyone but the manager is considered "part time". Manager has 50 hours a week, shiftleaders/supervisors have 30-40 (i am in this class), and regular employees have between 10-30, depending on how well they work, better worker, more hours.

Seems like half the time I work 40 or more hours a week, but am still classified as part time. But then again, I do work at a Taco Bell, so what can I say. Well, I may be up for assistant store manager, which would mean full time, salary pay, but the pay would be around 2.5x better then what I am currently making...

Im sure it is, just need to find it. From what i've heard from some, anything over 30 is considered full time.

well, if that is the case, then I think you would have a good standing in expecting overtime for anything over the stated part time hours!

:)

Well, I have been told it is 32 hours/week average. But you should look into it.

I think if they keep you up in those hours for 6 or more weeks, they have to make you full time.

OR they could just fire you. :p

Wait a minute. Meaning if i'm a full-time employee working approximately 45 hours each week @ the stated .024 PTO per 1 hour work would mean i'm getting approximately 6 days PTO. That's better then the 4 days a year i get!

Yes, had it happen before. That's what happens when other employees are incompetent.

they probably pay you less then the full timers...if they do you are cheap labor to them, so they give you more hours..enjoy it while it last :p

Damn, you only get 4 days a year? That's what, a day every three months, a third of a day a month? Even as an intern I got one day off every two weeks (4 hours of sick leave and 4 hours of annual leave).

part time / full time has nothing to do with the hours worked and is determined by your employer (at least in the state where I live... NJ)

at one of my previous jobs, I was a part timer who worked 40-45 hours per week; there were some full timers who worked 30-35 hours per week.

now, I'm a full-timer working 50 hours per week with no overtime :/ (still making more than I would have made at my last job, though, so cheers for that)

Well.... It isn't just state to state. It also includes unions (if you have any.)

My union is what told me if the store that I worked for kept me at 32+ hours average a week for 6 weeks or more, they had to change my status to full time.

This was in NJ. ;)

Also, to those that think 4 days PTO is low: :p :p :p

I only get 2 a year. And it also counts as sick time!

Heh. In the gubment, starting off you get 4 hours of sick leave and 4 hours of annual leave every two weeks. After 3 years you start getting 4 hours of sick leave and 8 hours of annual leave every two weeks. After either ten or twelve years (can't remember which) you start getting 4 hours of sick leave and 12 hours of annual leave (1.5 days) every two weeks. It's kind of nice.
