WTF is wrong with my onboard sound

Hey. I just got a new motherboard, with built-in sound :( and I can't get any sound to work. I tried downloading and installing the latest 4in1 drivers for my motherboard, and I tried the recommended sound driver for my sound chip on the fic website (www.fic.com.tw).
Basically, there's no sound coming from the speakers, except clicks and buzzing noises if you turn the speaker's volume up to the max. The weird thing is, if you play old DOS games (that use the PC Speaker for sound effects) under windows, windows says "the sound card is in use by another application". When you play the game, you get the sound effects that are usually coming out of the system/PC speaker coming out of the desktop speakers!! WHAT THE F*CK!??!??!!????!!
This is really annoying me, so can anyone give me some advice, please??

Yes, I tried all that stuff - i went into the BIOS setup and checked whether the chip is enabled - it is.

Just guessing, but check Control Panel/System for a possible interrupt conflict.

I don't think there's any conflicts with the sound chip -> maybe there is, but my working theory is that the PC thinks the line out port is actually the PC speaker, because ALL sound that is supposed to come out of the PC speaker comes out of the desktop speakers.

Ok this is weird -> If a play a game in native dos mode that uses the PC speaker for output, the system enters Suspend mode and the game runs REAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYY SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYY
