WTF is wrong with Apple?

So it is Apples fault they don't support a Microsoft OS? :p

Probably because of the many changes that have been made with Vista and that I doubt that MS is giving Apple everything they need to make a new version. I mean, MS has the Zune now, so why help Apple iTunes?

No I do not have any facts to back my thoughts up, they are my thoughts alone even if they make sense. :)

They won't release the fix until they've had a chance to do one of those clever ads bashing Vista over the issue. :p

Apple has the "little guy" image and everyone forgets they are dominating the media market right now. I'm not saying they are leveraging their monopoly to help push their other products (OS X) but it wouldn't take a very big tinfoil hat to reach that conclussion.

:p

Apple has access to Vista since the early Betas. They knew long long ago that this was a problem. They also had access to all sdks and full dev tech support from Microsoft.

This is an Apple thing. They write the app so it's absolutely their fault if the app doesn't run.

This is ridiculous. Does anyone know when Apple will release a Vista-compatible iTunes?

It's all a ploy. Buy a Mac. :)

Why did Vista change so much that iTunes won't work with it? Or does iTunes has code that makes sure you're using Windows 2000/XP?

Many apps simply have an OS version check that needs updated and then they'll run fine with no other changes.

All the same NetAPI calls that iTunes is using in XP should be fine and dandy in Vista. If iTunes is using something proprietary instead of leveraging the normal network APIs then it could be problems for them. If this is the case it wouldn't be indicative of great programming to begin with.

Really though it's ridiculous given the size of their customer base and the nature of it (relatively tech saavy folks that are more likely to use the newest OS). This didn't exactly sneak up on them either.

I'm running it normally and it seems fine, the only issue is the Aero transparency bug with the taskbar.

Funny thread. On the way to work today, one of the girls in my carpool was complaining about Vista "not supporting iTunes." I kept my mouth shut, because long ago I realised that correcting them on anything technical (esp. relating to iProducts) earned me nothing but dull stares and scorn for questioning the wisdom of the masses.

This may be the answer. I just recently purchased the Sansa e280R and an 8GB Nano. Haven't yet opened either one, but had about decided to keep the iPod and return the Sansa. I've been waiting on iTunes to release the Vista-compatible version any day, but I'm now on the verge of returning the iPod and keeping the Sansa. Screw Apple. This is pathetic.

Yep, there's a plugin for WMP11 that will sync your iPod. I've been using it for a couple weeks and it works great.

Now I can finally get rid of the iTunes/Quicktime sh!t.

ROFL

Why did Vista change so much that iTunes won't work with it?

A Rhapsody support rep. said Vista 64-bit DRM had massive changes just before release. I'm not sure about the 32-bit DRM, but the IE7+Vista-DRM switches have probably hit the online subscription/purchase media companies pretty hard. There are still lots of bugs in Rhapsody 4 on Vista 32-bit, and 64-bit support is not even being given a timeline IIRC.

I'm confused, everyone I talked to who runs Vista + itunes has no real issues with it. I would imagine it might be a case of a few systems here and there. If I went by what I've read in this thread, only 1 person is actually not able to run it, while the rest who've commented can?

Zune software was made compatible after RC2 but before RTM. You can always get a Zune :) I'm digging mine.

Isn't the Zune hard drive only? If it is, it's in a different class than the other two players listed.

For me, and what I use it for, my Sansa e260 is almost perfect. And, since it shows up as a flash drive, it should work on almost all OSes out there (OS X and OpenBSD seem to have issues with it though... Windows XP and Linux work just fine).

I'd say if Apple wants to maintain its access to the non hippie (er non Apple) market, they better get on board the Windows band wagon. My daughter has an Ipod Nano and I don't own any Apple computers. Me thinks Apple like selling Ipods to Windows user as it opens their market up very wide. The Ipod is a good product, even if the battery life is short compared to my Samsung! ;-)

iTunes works, but the toll it takes on my computer is unbearable. Multitasking is a nightmare if I want to listen music and use photoshop or even Opera. PC gets noticiably more sluggish.
