WTF is up with these new ATOT ads

About a week ago PeerGuardian started blocking the server that provides the new ads on ATOT. Now IE7 gives me an info bar when I load this page asking if I want to install an ActiveX QuickTime scriptable object, and because I deny it the ads do not load. What's up with this? Seems kind of intrusive.
 
Yeah seems like something happened to the dynamic server over the past week or so. The ads that are being placed at the top are entirely different, and some people have issues with Quicktime (namely, here). Not sure what they did, but there was probably a reason for it.

I'm getting the same thing Noctural had. Is this really something I want to allow?
