Okay, I've used steam in the past and everything has worked peachy - but now it's acting all ghey.

At the moment I'm downloading the orange box on my steam account. the steam window says my username at the left hand corner. However, when I click on community it asks me to login. Weird, but Ok w/e. I type in my info and it says incorrect login. I just registered 1 hour ago so this cannot be happening.

WTF?!

I never liked Steam... slow UI, slow opening the damn program, slow logging in. When I close HL2 ep2 and TF2 (hl2.exe is no longer open, i've checked), my ram usage is still at 95% (with 2gb ram) until I close Steam, then my RAM usage drops to 25%.

However, the auto patching is nice. The ability to log into my account from anywhere, download and play my games is very nice.

Steam always made me want to scream.Bought retail 1/2life2,took an hour to install, install scream and unlock 1/2life2 ,then takes over my computer for several hours downloading tons of updates.I couldn't do anything else because scream was hogging all my bandwidth and computer resources.
Steam retail games are the only retail games that take hours to install.Worst retail install platform ever.

I like steam, never had any real issues with it. The benefits--auto-patching, no cds, ability to play your games on any machine-- far out weigh any troubles.

Wait, I can access my games on any machine? What if I installed it from a DVD and did not buy it directly from steam? Will I lose my saved games (so in HL2)?

A little OT: I've never EVER played HL2. Wow, what a great game. I wish there was a little bit more time in talking to people in the city and exploring around, but it's still great. I'm stuck on this part where there are all these pipes and a big bar-damish thing blocking the water. This is near the end of the kanel chapter...ARGH!

Walkthroughs are terrible too.

Thats the best thing about Steam. Any machine that could possibly play CS can with Steam installed. I thought that HL2 was a little boring compared to HL1, but it was still a really fun game :) More fun than most.

Only issue I have is offline mode, I can't seem to get it to work, it says it can't connect to the steam server asks if I want to go into offline mode, I say yes and nothing happens. I hate being locked out of my games.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally type the username and password username and password twice?

I had that problem when I first got Steam again with the Orange Box. It went away after a few days, guess it took time to register.
