WTF is this? RAM?

They are just "dummy" sticks. To my knowledge, all Dell machines with RD ram shipped with these in the slots that didn't contain normal ram. I saw this a lot, back in the day. I'm not sure why they were there though, never cared much 😀

RDRAM worked in serial. If there are empty memory slots, they have to be filled with something.

These faux memory modules are called "C-RIMMS", or continuity RIMMS.

WFT. We have one in our upstairs office that takes RDRAM and left these out when I put the maching back together and wouldnt even boot up. Stuck them back in and all was good. I will never buy RDRAM waaaaay to expensive. Bought a 512MB(2x256 pair) for about 250.

Heh, I spent a grand on 2x512 32bit RDRAM 4200 just over 2 years ago. Sold them recently here for less than 200. They were of the 232pin variety and in all honesty they are still faster and better than DDR of any speed.

Hi, What you have there is a stick of RAMBUS memory. Never saw a MB that used it but, have a stick and a dummy in the junk box. The funny looking one without any chips is the dummy. It is required if you don't have two sticks with chips. Funny stuff. Jim

Rambus is used in a lot of Dell machines. Atleast the older ones, don't know what they use now since they kicked it up a notch with that quad SLI machine....
