Trico is a manufacturer of windshield wipers and associated parts.

My guess is you have an old windshield washer pump there.
 

That is a vacuum operated windshield wiper motor from a early Ford.

Damn you Quixfire and Skoob ;)

I'll give you the answer you want:
It's an old antique "word that rhymes with venus" pump. it's worth $1000, now sell it on eBay and get rich!
 

On a side note, these wiper motors are notorious for wiping very fast when traveling down hill in gear, whilst stopping under heavy load going up hill.

(loss of vacuum)

Ahh, cool....

I figured it was a pump because when you move the lever, it blows air.. but vacuum makes sense too.

Interesting.

Yup, vacuum motor garanteed to make the wipers not work when you need them the most!!

My mom had a 1968 (or maybe it was 1964) International with vacuum operated windshield wipers. I can verify that the wipers worked under their own agenda, inversely correlated to how bad you needed them.
