Exercise 9: Using the Reader's Guide
Use a recent volume of the Reader's Guide to locate two articles on earthquakes. For each article, note the periodical, the title of the article, it's author, volume, date, and page numbers.

that's my sister's homework, she's in 8th grade, and didnt know how to do that, and i dont even know what a reader's guide is...

anyone help please?

The Reader's Guide To Periodical Literature is a vast catalogue of magazine articles, sorted in various ways (you can search by author, keyword, etc). It used to exist as a huge set of volumes, but these days it functions as an on-line database.

It's something you can't do from home unless you have a login to the on-line database. Pretty much she just needs to go to the library, punch in a keyword search for "earthquake" and it will pop up a list of articles. Select 2 of them, write down the info requested and away we go.

ahhhh okay thanks a lot, i understand now. i tried calling my university (UCSD) cuz i was at their library page and it had a link to a online database but it required a login/pw, and they said its a restricted database and the only way to access it even if im a student is to be on campus...
